The Product Cost Engineer owns program managing all aspects of the financial health of the product from concept through EOL (end of life). This person has an engineering orientation and is responsible for working within operations, engineering, product management, sourcing, finance and contract manufacturing teams to drive development, implementation and management of the product budget and supply chain continuity. In collaboration with stakeholders, this person is responsible for establishing product cost targets early in a products conception. This person is also responsible for capturing, documenting and communicating risks and opportunities, financial exposures and outlay as it relates to their product. They are involved throughout all stages of the product family's lifecycle to ensure all financial targets through end-of-life are achieved. They will have a strong technical understanding of the product and use this to engage with HW teams and challenge design decisions from a cost standpoint. They will support weekly executive product line reviews outlining performance against budget, target and actual cost for BOM, MVA and CapEx. In collaboration with the GSM and HW teams, this person will also own the supplier plan of record (SPOR) in order to ensure supply chain alignment and team focus on cost targets. Candidates must be detail and execution focused, strong collaborators and influencers and have an extensive background in all costing methodologies in Consumer Electronics.

  • Use your technical expertise to drive engineering and the supply chain team to meet program cost targets at a product and commodity level for your project
  • Challenge HW teams at a technical level to run DOEs to enable cost down efforts from a technology standpoint
  • Track the program actual costs versus target to identify program deltas and corrective actions to bring back on track
  • Outline, report and track all program risks & opportunities related to product cost and drive them to closure
  • Lead cross-functional cost reviews to report out actual versus target cost and risks and opportunities for each program
  • Attend program new product introduction meetings to understand the cost implication of engineering and/or process changes
  • Working with both GSM and Engineering, oversee the establishment of a supplier plan of record (SPOR) for all products
  • Drive the supply chain and operations team to provide detailed cost reduction forecast that enable you to meet and exceed your product goals
  • Work with OPM team to create CapEx budget by program. Track actuals to budget and identify opportunities for CapEx reduction and CapEx reuse on future programs
  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing & Operations Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in product cost management role in consumer electronics industry
  • Knowledge in operations and supply chain
  • Cross-functional working experience to drive program
  • Experience working with Asia based suppliers directly to drive improvement
  • Problem solving, analytical and communication experience
  • Experience in Microsoft Office suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SQL
  • Master's degree, MBA
