Privacy Policy Engagement Director

Facebook is looking for a highly motivated, well organized leader and team player to join our growing global privacy and public policy team. The successful candidate will lead Facebook’s strategy and engagement on privacy policy, working with and supporting the wider policy team in the US. The ideal candidate will be an expert in privacy, have a credible track record in managing privacy related issues, and be comfortable working on technology policy issues. Candidates should be accomplished at building and managing relationships with policy-makers and regulators, have strategic vision with strong experience in developing and drafting comments and other materials for regulators, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders. This is a full-time position based in our Washington, DC office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as direct support to the Global Director of Privacy Policy (Engagement), working closely with a cross-functional global team on privacy matters
  • Direct Facebook’s strategy on privacy policy engagement in the US
  • Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with trade associations, think tanks, privacy regulators and key policymakers on substantive privacy policy matters
  • Identify & monitor privacy policy trends of importance for the company
  • Develop the appropriate strategies, liaising and communicating with cross-functional teams as appropriate
  • Work with the broader policy team to provide an external engagement perspective when analyzing legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data security and related technology issues
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop and articulate the company's positions on key privacy and data protection issues in the form of internal briefing documents, position papers, and related documents
  • Design and execute strategies for buy-in and adoption from external stakeholders
  • Design and execute high impact policy strategies and programmatic initiatives
  • Advise on the privacy policy implications of new products and features
  • Represent Facebook at meetings and conferences
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 12+ years of experience in privacy and technology policy issues with proven track record
  • Knowledge in technologies and devices and of Facebook products
  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy legislative and policy issues
  • Demonstrated experience in finding solution to business issues and provide business-focused advice
  • Experience working on a variety of legal and policy questions
  • Links to articles/videos/media interviews which demonstrate their track record in this field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Law Degree
  • Native proficiency or fluency in English
  • Fluency in other languages
  • Experience working with a web 2.0 or social networking company on privacy issues
  • Privacy certification (e.g. CIPP or CIPM or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to make sound judgments under tight deadlines
