Oculus is a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative researchers with a passion for technology to develop next generation graphics systems at our research location in Redmond, WA. The focus of this role is on computer graphics with the primary responsibility being the real-time synthesis of high quality images, including perceptual rendering, realistic shading, rendering for new displays, global illumination, and geometry processing. The position is a fixed term contract for 24 months and requires a PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or similar areas, and a strong background in graphics and programming, as well as solid mathematical skills.


  • Lead graphics research projects that span cross-functional teams
  • Develop new technologies for driving current and future head mounted displays under hard real-time constraints
  • Collaborate with other researchers and engineers to develop concepts that impact the future product pipeline
  • Publish and present papers in international conferences and journals, attend top conferences in graphics and related fields

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree or completing a postdoctoral assignment in the field of computer graphics, image processing or similar
  • 3+ years programming/implementing in C++, at least one of the following: CUDA, Compute Shaders (GL/DX), ISPC, SSE/AVX, or OpenCL
  • 2+ years experience with advanced image synthesis (e.g., rendering, sampling, reconstruction, ray tracing, shading, level of detail)
  • 2+ years experience with real-time computer graphics, including GPU hardware, modern graphics APIs, and the GPU pipeline
  • A documented history of increasing responsibilities and decision-making experience
  • 1plus publication at a tier-1 or tier-2 computer science conference/journal
  • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Able to obtain work authorization in the US for a two-year period beginning in 2018
  • Must be available to start employment on or after January 1, 2018

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with machine learning
  • 1+ years of experience in designing graphics hardware
  • 1 plus papers in virtual reality, perceptual graphics, or machine learning
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as SIGGRAPH, Eurographics, HPG, EGSR, etc.
  • Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
