Postdoctoral Research Scientist, Device and Process Development (PhD)

FRL is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with experience in process development for enabling manufacture of innovative device architectures. Candidate should have hands-on experience in sensor/actuator design & fabrication & characterization and must be able to perform additive/subtractive manufacturing and process metrology. Candidate should have experience in defining process and device architectures for leading edge fabrication technologies.

  • Work on new technology implementation and integration engineering in order to architect, develop, and deliver leading edge fabrication technologies
  • Perform process development experiments and sustain existing fabrication runs
  • Define processes and architectures to deliver proof of concept devices
  • Document process development efforts, parameters, and workflows
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of materials science, chemistry, and ME/EE researchers
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in the field of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, material science or another field
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Hands-on experience with additive and subtractive manufacturing processes including 3D printing, contact lithography, dry/wet etching and profilometry & interferometry
  • Experience in CAD/CAM to design and manufacture prototypes
  • Experience independently delving into scientific literature to inform and reinforce hypotheses, and develop robust research plans
  • Proven track record of research, including publications or patents
  • Hands-on experience with selective laser-induced etching for delivering proof of concept devices
  • Advanced understanding of CAD/CAM manufacturing and experience with Rhino3D and/or Solidworks
