At Facebook Reality Labs, our goal is to develop next generation AR/VR display systems. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers with diverse technical backgrounds all working towards advancing the state of the art for AR systems. Our team in Redmond, WA is currently looking for a full time Organic Chemist with a passion for technology to lead AR materials development. In this role, you will redefine innovation by designing, fabricating and developing materials with enhanced optical, electrical and mechanical properties for AR components.

  • Hands-on in the lab for organic synthesis, processing and characterization
  • Develop novel materials with advanced optical, electrical and mechanical properties for AR/VR systems
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of optics, materials science, chemistry, and ME/EE researchers to work on head-mounted display technologies
  • Develop integrated hardware prototype systems
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop new component designs from the ground up
  • Communicate and effectively share research with the broader team
  • PhD in Organic Chemistry, Physics Chemistry or related field
  • 3+ years of hands on experience in small molecule organic synthesis techniques
  • Advanced knowledge and hands on experience of crystal growth, crystal engineering and small molecule thin film development
  • Experience in solid state characterization techniques such as X-Ray crystallography, UV-vis, thin film characterization
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem solving capabilities
  • Experience in optical, mechanical and electrical characterization of materials
  • Experience in working with cross functional teams and building device prototypes
  • Advanced understanding of optical properties of materials
  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry
