Optical Metrology Engineer

The AR/VR Platform Display & Optics team focuses on moving the state-of-art display and optical technologies forward for Facebook AR/VR products, giving people the power to build community and bringing the world closer together. The team is responsible for technology development and maturation, component design, novel manufacturing processes and metrology development, and system integration of display and optics for all Facebook AR/VR products. The VR/Portal optics team is looking for an Optical Metrology Engineer. This person will lead the development, qualification, and implementation of optical metrology technologies for characterizing optical modules and systems in VR products.

OPTICAL METROLOGY ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define, design, and develop optical metrology solutions including hardware engineering, test software implementation, and instrument qualification
  • Develop benchtop system and instrumentation to characterize complex modules and integrated systems for display and optics
  • Perform opto-mechanical simulation at the system level, and collect and perform statistical analysis on metrology data to correlate to performance metrics
  • Explore novel optical metrology technologies and work with suppliers on prototype development
  • Take complete ownership of transferring metrology technologies from Research & Development to mass production
  • Up to 20% domestic and international travel
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience or an advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline with 2+ years of experience
  • Hands-on experience in optical metrology development from concept to system validation
  • Knowledge of imaging optics, image quality metrics, optical metrology, and characterization
  • Experience in opto-mechanical design and simulation using SolidWorks, NX or other CAD tools
  • Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED or other optical design/simulation tools
  • Experience in test automation (instrument control, data collection and analysis) using LabView, Matlab or Python
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis using Minitab or JMP
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with display optics and performance metrics
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Measurement System Analysis
  • Experience in image processing and algorithm development
