Manager, Software Engineering, AR\/VR - Portal Kernel and Connectivity

The Portal team brings together world-class experts to develop and ship groundbreaking products at the intersection of hardware, software, and content. We have a clear mandate to ship products at scale. In particular, seemingly impossible products that define new categories and that advance Facebook's mission of connecting the world.

Facebook Portal team is looking for an engineering manager with strong technical expertise in the OS space. You will be responsible for leading software engineers building the PortalOS stack that powers Portal. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of device development or system engineering catering to embedded/mobile platforms. You will bring strong people management skill in combination with deep technical knowledge to enable the launch of best in class consumer electronic products from Facebook.


  • Manage a team of software engineers that builds the low level OS stack for Facebook Portal device family.
  • The teams will be responsible for Kernel/BSP work, hardware bringup, factory support, Connectivity, DRM and Android updates.
  • Be both a technical leader in the OS domain and a people manager.
  • Manage engineers and help them develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams.
  • Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement.
  • Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams.
  • Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees.
  • Keep abreast with latest technological advancements in industry and bring new innovation and value to Portal customers.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing engineering teams.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing managers.
  • 5+ years of experience with Linux, Android and open-source software.
  • 5+ years of experience with mobile SoCs.
  • Experience shipping consumer products.
  • Proven track record of building and supporting cross-functional teams.
  • Experience supporting, coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers.
  • Experience working with global partners.
