Oculus Research, the research division of Oculus (Facebook), is currently recruiting for a Research Scientist Manager to manage and drive the R&D teams within our research organization. The role will involve coordinating and managing the site’s R&D activities and resources (especially the human resources) to deliver working LED module prototypes. He/she will have demonstrated an ability to create/manage a world class R&D team in a hi-tech R&D environment. Additionally, the ideal candidate will also have excelled as a scientist/manager in the fields of LED or display technologies. The job is particularly suited to a person with a strong technical and management experience and a passion to get the job done on time and to specification. The Research Scientist Manager will join the management team of a vibrant, multidisciplinary and fast-moving research environment. This is a full-time position based in our Cork site, Ireland.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the human research and development resources to ensure all research programs run smoothly and efficiently
  • Encouraging, supporting and mentoring the R&D teams
  • Engaging and supporting all the company’s people support/HR systems. Manage staff welfare by providing for all their needs
  • Demonstrates prototype development impact and ability for research to help drive strategy
  • Overseeing the daily activities and priorities to meet the needs and expectations of the researchers and research programs
  • Oversight for the technology vision and strategy for the R&D team to ensure effective prioritization and allocation of resources
  • Supporting the operations management and technical project management functions of the organization
  • Identifies areas for team development and establishes goals (individual and team)
  • Lead and support the organization’s IP creation culture
  • Communicate R&D status to stakeholders and various key teams around the organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (ideally PhD or MBA) in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Exemplary leadership and problem solving skills
  • 5+ years of tech industry experience
  • 5+ years of program management experience
  • 3+ years of people management and leadership experience
  • Extremely strong communication skills and experience working with highly technical teams
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills along with multi-tasking capabilities to get things done in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to motivate and focus a large collaboration to reach challenging goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within diverse, cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exposure to large-scale systems
  • Problem solver to remove any impediments facing researchers and their ability to overcome complex problems
  • Capable of dealing with ambiguity and changing research paths
