Oculus seeks a Lead Counsel for its AR/VR Research Group, where leading scientists and engineers are pushing the boundaries of augmented and virtual reality. This position entails providing legal advice related to AR and VR technology development and negotiating technology transactions and academic collaborations. Success in this position will require analyzing complex and global legal issues related to innovative and multifaceted products. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge issues in the fields of augmented reality and virtual reality.


  • Counsel AR/VR research teams on a variety of international legal matters related to technical collaborations and joint development of intellectual property
  • Oversee and negotiate complex tech transactions, including IP licensing, partnership agreements and other commercial and academic agreements related to AR/VR technologies
  • Influence and build relationships with executives, product teams and peers across Oculus and Facebook
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts at Oculus and Facebook to analyze and communicate legal risks
Minimum Qualifications
  • Solicitor or barrister with at least 5 years post qualification experience gained at a major law firm and/or in-house experience with technology companies or academic institutions.
  • LLB or equivalent from recognised law school
  • Emerging product counseling and negotiating experience
  • Knowledge of EU competition law in the context of technology licensing arrangements
  • Experience in IP and technology licensing, including open source
  • Experience in drafting consortium arrangements and a good grasp of cross border academic collaborations (knowledge of Horizon 2020 agreements would be advantageous)
  • Self-starter who is comfortable with working internationally
  • Some travel required
