Hardware Systems Architect

We are looking for a strong subject matter expert to design, implement and deploy future novel communication technologies for Facebook Connectivity. The Hardware Systems Architect will lead the definition and convergence of complex and novel communication subsystem that can span modem architecture, application processor architecture, power management and clocking systems, MIMO Radio and end to end communication system. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent engineering fundamentals to draw on and possess a deep understanding of electronics and communication systems across the stack. You will be surrounded by top notch engineers and they expect you to be able to keep up with them. In this role, you will be responsible for understanding product definition and specifications, evaluate, develop and characterize communication systems. You will also be responsible for system design, integration, debug and bring up in the lab and the field with a vision and clear path on transitioning the product to high volume manufacturing. Understanding and balancing the engineering trade-offs between performance, cost, lead-time and manufacturability is key. You will engage in a collaborative and rapidly changing environment across ID, hardware engineering, partnerships, and supply chain to drive incubation of new technologies from proof of concept through integration into products for mass production.

HARDWARE SYSTEMS ARCHITECT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own system architectures encompassing compute and proper sizing of the AP, modem subsystems and its partitioning, memory sizing, EE power delivery and budgeting, clocking, calibration, and integration of HW with firmware and from initial conception through prototyping, NPI, and production ramp.
  • Technical delivery on hardest architectural problems in early phase concept development (ensuring translation of marketing requirements to product and design requirements).
  • Partner with research, core technology, hardware, and supply chain teams to create component and module requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on blank-slate and early-phase prototyping and product exploration, Communicate trade-offs, program concerns and technical direction.
  • Project deliverables may include specification documents, micro-architectural definitions, RTL code (VHDL, Verilog and/or System Verilog).
  • Support Travel domestically or internationally.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS/MS/PhD in electrical engineering or a related discipline with more than 8 years of experience.
  • Knowledge in embedded systems, experience in device drivers and firmware configuration.
  • Hands-on experience with system bring-up in the lab and factory, and subsystem verification. Experience with standard test equipment (logic analyzers, network analyzers, scopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Experience making performance/features vs. cost/manufacturability tradeoffs regarding layout, BoM, and placement.
  • Knowledge in thermal, mechanical, and SW requirements and issues similar to digital/analog/RF subsystem integration into the overall product.
  • Knowledge in MIMO and Beamforming systems, issues and tradeoffs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with base stations, modems and 4GLTE/5G systems.
  • Familiarity with 3GPP standard.
  • Experience with large volume production issues and techniques (REL, DFM, DFT, OPS, Procurement).
