Electrical Engineer, Data Center Strategic Engineering

Facebook is seeking an Electrical Engineer experienced in the design and operations of Critical Facilities to become part of our Data Center Strategic Engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The Facebook Data Center Strategic Engineering team endeavors to be the benchmark of innovation for the data center industry and to help other data center teams solve problems/challenges through innovative solutions. This position is full-time and located in our Menlo Park office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the team in the research and development of conceptual design of data center electrical infrastructure for improved reliability, efficiency, speed to market and cost
  • Provide technical due diligence review and evaluation for the data center site selection process
  • Evaluation of new technologies and products
  • Lead pilot or proof of concept projects to evaluate benefits and feasibility of the solution for broader deployment
  • Cross-functional collaboration with other Facebook teams including Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Network Engineering and Capacity Engineering and Analysis
  • Develop strong industry relationships with other data center peers and organizations to maintain current on industry trends and future directions
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key vendors to gain insight into new product development roadmaps
  • Provide electrical mission critical system review services to the design team and local data center operations teams
  • Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, electrical systems audits, and collaboration with local teams as required
  • Participate in equipment failure or power outage related incident Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA)
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in electrical engineering
  • Electrical Professional Engineer registration
  • 10+ years work experience in electrical systems design, construction, operations, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of high voltage substation design, medium voltage distribution systems, mission critical power distribution, generators, UPS, PDU, and Building Management System
  • Working knowledge of High Voltage electrical transmission, distribution, and utility interconnection processes
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NEC, NETA, ANSI, IEEE, NFPA, UL, UFC and UBC
  • Working knowledge of international standards including IEC, CE and EN
  • Experience with construction process and cost estimating process
  • Cross-discipline knowledge of complete critical facility systems
  • Troubleshooting and analytical experience
  • Experience providing solutions to projects
  • Presentation and communications experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • R&D experience with electrical system products
  • Large and complex system design experience, including campus systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, and SKM software
