Electrical Engineer

    • Woodinville, WA

FRL is devoted to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to design, build, and test prototype electrical systems for future consumer VR and AR experiences. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a broad set of experiences, including embedded design, analog/mixed signal design, RF, or multimodal biometric sensing. The systems we work with could have ASICs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs from simple to large, displays, audio, inertial sensors, haptic interfaces, camera sensors, and high speed I/O. The ideal candidate would be comfortable designing mixed high speed digital circuit boards, be experienced with troubleshooting at the board and system level, and be familiar with agile development processes. They should have enough firmware skills to successfully bring boards up and get them to a proof-of-concept level of readiness, and the ability to work with a team of researchers with tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Required Skills

  • Designing schematics, completing board layouts, assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into electro-mechanical systems
  • Collaborating in a team environment across engineering disciplines
  • Transforming vendor reference designs into custom solutions
  • Transforming ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions
  • Incubating new technologies into research prototypes

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of industry experience in Electrical Engineering or similar field
  • BS in Digital System Design/Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with schematic and board design using Cadence Orcad, Altium or equivalent
  • Experience with use of oscilloscopes, high speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, and function generators
  • Knowledge of analog EE and digital design techniques

Preferred Qualification
  • Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies
  • Sufficient experience creating initial system bring-up code or debug and test code in C
  • Experience programming in languages such as Python/Java/C#
  • Experience designing for low-power or portable electronic devices
  • Demonstrates strong aptitude for creative problem solving
