Director, SEC Reporting

Facebook is seeking a seasoned Director, SEC Reporting to join our Corporate Accounting team. This role requires an aptitude for thought leadership and will lead a capable team with responsibility for Facebook's SEC and oversight of financial reporting standards, including quarterly filings, reporting strategy, preclearance actions and investor reporting advocacy initiatives. The position will be based in Menlo Park, California and will report to our Director of Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting.
Our SEC Reporting team currently supports annual multi-billion dollar growth and disruptive technology and initiatives. The team plays a key role by determining SEC and corporate reporting implications arising from disruptive technology and initiatives including infrastructure and connectivity, blockchain, derivatives, leases, and new products. This highly qualified and technically proficient leader will also be included in the strategic planning and operational implementation for Facebook's technologies, business priorities and product roadmaps.
A successful candidate needs to have deep expertise in SEC reporting requirements and commitment to high quality financial reporting and experience working collaboratively with leading industry thought leadership with SEC, FASB or related bodies through the standard setting process or extensive consultation with financial reporting and compliance regulators. The successful candidate must have a proven record of leading and growing a high performing team with thought leadership and a professional track record of constructive interaction with SEC and global standard setters. This role requires a professional career anchored in high quality, investor-focused reporting with a background focused on SEC reporting compliance in a corporate or Big 4 Public accounting leadership, national office and/or regulatory rotation.
Ideally, our candidate is comfortable and effective in a rapidly changing environment and will partner closely with the leaders of tax, treasury, FP&A and other Finance functions, as well as a broad group of cross-functional business teams in order to provide guidance, and support well informed decisions. The individual must be a self-starter, fast learner and capable of taking full ownership of their areas of responsibility. They will be expected to anticipate and surface issues, solve problems and recommend solutions, while exercising good business judgment and risk management. This role also requires strong communication skills to effectively facilitate information flow between the business and Finance, and to lead discussions with executives and our audit committee. Effective time management and prioritization skills in managing multiple projects are essential to the success of this role.

DIRECTOR, SEC REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • SEC Reporting:
    • Oversee the Company's external financial reporting process, including SEC reporting (Form 10-K, 10-Q), quarterly and annual census reporting, and other financial and governmental statutory reporting as required
    • Participate in the Company's Disclosure Committee and when appropriate Audit and Risk Oversight Committee
    • Oversee the preparation and review of quarterly financial statements, including statement of cash flows
    • Ensure compliance with all SEC and GAAP and disclosure requirements
    • Ensure the proper implementation of new accounting pronouncements into financial statements
    • Lead various process improvement initiatives in order to eliminate redundancies and improve efficiency
    • Oversee compliance and review of the XBRL process
    • Assist with the internal and external stakeholder review of the reporting deliverables
    • Support the annual audit and quarterly review activities with external auditors
    • Support testing by internal and external auditors on internal controls
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor or higher degree in accounting or finance
  • 12+ years technical accounting and reporting experience
  • CPA, or equivalent qualification with 8+ years US GAAP experience
  • Experience as a Manager or above in a Big 4 accounting firm with experience working with the National Office or standard setting bodies in practice or corporate environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching and documenting accounting guidance and the accounting treatment of issues
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience leading both technical accounting and SEC reporting at a public US company
  • IFRS knowledge
  • Experience in the technology or social media industry
