Director of Privacy Policy Engagement, EMEA

Facebook is looking for a highly motivated, well-organized leader and team player to join our growing global privacy and public policy team. The successful candidate will lead Facebook’s strategy and engagement in EMEA on privacy policy, working with and supporting the wider policy team in the region. The ideal candidate will be an expert in privacy and data protection, have an excellent track record in managing privacy related issues, and be comfortable working on technology policy issues. Candidates should be accomplished at building and managing relationships with policymakers, regulators, privacy advocates and other key stakeholders, have strategic vision, and be excellent writers, with strong experience in developing and drafting comments and other materials for regulators, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders. Candidates also should be excellent public speakers. This is a great opportunity to work on novel public policy issues in an exciting environment.
This position can be based in any of Facebook's EMEA offices - preferably London, Paris or Hamburg.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as direct support to the Global Director of Privacy Policy (Engagement), working closely with a cross-functional global team on privacy matters
  • Direct Facebook’s strategy on privacy policy engagement for the EU, Middle East and Africa
  • Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with key regulators (particularly with national Data Protection Authorities), policy makers, trade associations, think tanks, academics and advocates
  • Identify, monitor and develop the appropriate strategies regarding privacy policy trends of importance for the company, liaising with cross-functional teams as appropriate Work with the policy team to analyze legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data security and related technology issues
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop and articulate the company's positions on key privacy and data protection issues in the form of internal briefing documents , position papers, and related documents
  • Design and execute high impact policy strategies and programmatic initiatives in EMEA
  • Advise on the privacy policy implications of new products and features in the EMEA region, particularly in light of GDPR
  • Represent Facebook at meetings and conferences
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Significant experience in privacy and technology policy issues with proven successful track record
  • senior management position
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to make sound judgments under tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and devices and of Facebook products
  • Strong and current knowledge of data protection and privacy legislative and policy issues
  • Demonstrated ability to find pragmatic and creative solution to business issues and provide concise and business-focused advice
  • High degree of flexibility, willingness to travel and to work on a wide variety of legal and policy questions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Law Degree preferred
  • Privacy certification (e.g. CIPP or CIPM or similar)
  • Working with a web 2.0 or social networking company on privacy issues
  • Native proficiency or fluency in English
  • fluency in other EMEA languages
