Design Program Manager, Instagram Interests

Instagram's Interests Product Group has a mission to connect people to the things they love. We are composed of five teams - Shopping, Discovery, Ads, Core Business and Media. To succeed in our goal, we need to both reactively and proactively support product design teams at Instagram. Reactive support means fielding inbound requests from teams and ensuring we are promptly handling issues as they arise. Proactive support means identifying areas of opportunity for the team to design and build products, like setting clear principles, ensuring that the sub-teams are aware of each other's work and roadmaps, and setting up processes to better collaborate with cross-functional disciplines and other teams.

  • Partnering with the Interests designers and managers to create regular connections across the sub-teams and between the other Product Group teams at Instagram.
  • Partnering with designers on complex cross-product initiatives to coordinate collaboration with other teams and drive a unified design POV.
  • Supporting specific efforts to better connect offices with an emphasis on Interests teams, but extending out to the other product groups.
  • Helping to promote communication within the broader design team - research and content strategy.
  • Tracking design work and what is being tested at any one time.
  • Facilitating design-led projects and initiatives for each half with design leads.
  • Driving conversations and meetings to bring stakeholders together for updates or to review challenges or changing scope.
  • Identifying opportunities to help the Interests Design team better collaborate and socialize work through shared challenges, and to learn from each other.
  • Creating clear guidelines for some of our operating rhythms and ways we come together as an organization.
  • Occasionally helping to plan and facilitate key design sprints, team workshops, and design events.
  • 6+ years of experience as a producer, project manager or program manager with a background establishing programs, supporting teams, and developing relationships
  • Experience working with product designers/UX as well as cross-functional teams, including, content, research, engineering, data science, etc. to design, build, and deliver products
  • Track record of operating independently, being detail-oriented, demonstrating strategic thinking about trade-offs, setting clear expectations, and delivering results in that meet established goals
  • Successful in fast-paced environment that requires independent time management, task prioritization, flexibility, and keen experience in identifying problems and proactively work towards solutions
  • Experience working with and communicating with multiple partner teams and cross-functional partners
