Construction Operations Manager

Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day we break ground and go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. Providing high availability and capacity means continually innovating the infrastructure within our data centers through design, construction, and operations. This allows us to meet our extreme growth demands and obtain the most robust, cost-effective online service in the world. Facebook is seeking a seasoned construction professional to join our growing Infrastructure Construction Management (ICM) team as a Construction Operations Manager responsible for developing and maturing our data center construction operations globally. The Construction Operations Manager will engage with internal staff, internal peer teams, and external parties to support our mission to safely and responsibly construct and deliver Facebook's mission critical infrastructure. Through a unique partnering approach with our staff, general contracting and design professionals, the Construction Operations Manager will help ICM expand a culture of collaboration and quality unparalleled in the data center construction industry. This position is full-time, located in our Menlo Park headquarters. Planned quarterly and occasional job site travel is required (domestic and international).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive execution consistency across the ICM portfolio by engaging with internal program and geographical managers to identify gaps and develop lasting solutions
  • Identify, hire and build an operations team necessary to fulfill the overall ICM program strategy that promotes a culture of safety, collaboration, innovation and partnership
  • Strategize with ICM directors and managers to establish group initiatives and formulate plans to execute upon those ambitions
  • Influence internal partner teams (ex. Design, Facility Operations, Finance) to create new operational strategies that contribute to our common goal of operational excellence
  • Support and enhance the development of the company's relationship with contractors and subcontractors to produce strategic, long term partnerships
  • Champion the development of new tooling or software aimed at driving new efficiencies within ICM and across our partner organizations
  • Develop ICM's approach to quarterly staff evaluations and maintain responsibility of cross team calibrations, communications and associated evaluation duties
  • Responsible to master plan and execute ICM's semi-annual and other periodic all-hands gatherings
  • Influence ICM's management leaders across preconstruction, retrofits and new construction of data centers
  • Mentor employees in areas of staff planning, program level risk assessment and staff development
  • Manage and maintain ICM's overall full-time equivalent (FTE) headcount allocation model
  • Develop ICM's internal staff training program, monitor progress and expand to external contractor staff, as appropriate
  • Work with Project Controls and Data Center Analytics teams to review and analyze staff headcount and utilization data, take action to help FB scale rapidly
  • Travel approximately 20-40% of any month (domestic & overseas)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 18+ years of work experience in any combination of construction program management, operations management and corporate leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering Discipline
  • Proven analytical and organizational experience in a corporate environment
  • Communication and relationship building experience
  • Experience with ground-up greenfield site development, occupied facility retrofit work and commercial construction practices
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations for groups of over 200 peers
  • Able to multitask and rethink priorities on a frequent basis to support a rapidly growing business model
  • Experienced with working across various cultures and geographical regions of the United States (global experience, a plus)
  • Must be familiar with MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Working knowledge of Primavera P6 is preferred
