Facebook seeks a highly motivated, team player to serve as Associate General Counsel, Patents. This position will facilitate freedom to operate for the Company by supporting business goals and mitigating patent risk by shaping the patent portfolio, counseling clients and supporting patent litigation, licensing and acquisitions. This position will be exposed to diverse technologies and will report to the Director/Head of Patents. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage patent portfolio and related activities for multiple product/technology areas, including invention identification and harvesting, invention disclosure meetings, portfolio mining, patent application preparation, and prosecution by outside patent counsel
  • Work with legal, product, and engineering teams to identify and protect patentable products, services, and technologies
  • Understand Facebook's strategic and competitive position and think at a high level about portfolio strategy
  • Train, educate and counsel product and engineering teams in intellectual property matters
  • Support patent litigation and licensing, as well as patent acquisitions and other IP-related transactions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or another technical discipline
  • 8+ years of patent experience
  • Eligible to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • In-house portfolio development experience
  • Experience with software, web technologies, social products/technologies/platforms, and/or the mobile space
  • Experience with patent licensing, valuation and acquisition
  • Experience with patent litigation or litigation support
