Americas MEP Manager

Facebook is looking for an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) Manager to oversee projects in the Americas and work in our Menlo Park office.


  • General
    • Collaborate with global MEP managers to develop Facebook MEP guidelines
    • Reconcile architectural design intent, site/building requirements and constraints, and constructability concerns with FB best practices
    • Work with Facebook PM and Sustainability teams to evaluate feasibility of LEED certification and other sustainability criteria on a project per project basis
    • Work with Facebook’s Facilities Operations team to define operations team's requirements including aspects like BMS, lighting controls etc.
    • 30-50% travel within the Americas
  • Programming and Due Diligence
    • Attend programming meetings to define any specialty spaces and their associated MEP systems
    • Assist architects and FB Workplace Design team in the selection of MEP and other specialty technical consultants such as acoustical, lighting, low voltage, waterproofing and more
    • Work with FB’s Sustainability team to define sustainability goals for the project
    • Assist Facebook transactions and PM teams with lease and work letter reviews to provide input on impacts and constraints of base building MEP systems
    • Join initial site visits to identify any site feasibility concerns related to MEP systems
    • Lead MEP due diligence report for potential and/or upcoming projects along with local project manager(s)
    • Lead preconstruction design review and constructability coordination
  • Design
    • Facilitate and attend project meetings/calls necessary to have full picture of topics that potentially affect integration of MEP equipment and infrastructure into new and ongoing projects throughout the entire project lifecycle
    • Work with one or multiple MEP consultants to perform a thorough peer review of all technical drawings for individual projects
    • Attend culinary and specialty space coordination meetings to provide oversight on MEP systems, as necessary
    • In a phased project, assist in developing and implementing programs for temporary mechanical and electrical systems and/or the temporary use of permanent systems
  • Procurement
    • Assist in value engineering process by evaluating alternative solutions proposed by the consulting team
    • Attend GC selection interviews to support selection process
    • Attend the GC's subcontractor selection process in particular for MEP subcontractors, as necessary
  • Construction
    • Facilitate and attend BIM meetings, as necessary, to provide general oversight and direction
    • Perform site walks to ensure MEP installation is on track as anticipated per project schedule
    • Selectively attend punch list walkthrough with MEP subconsultants
    • Arrange and lead special meetings, when necessary, to coordinate subcontractors’ shop drawings, and address design problems with subcontractors and consultants, etc.
  • Closeout
    • Review commissioning and closeout reports and assist with handover to FB’s Facilities Operations teams
    • Assist, as necessary, with MEP system start-up, testing, commissioning and acceptance
    • Be available to FB’s Facilities Operations teams as a technical resource for any questions they may have post construction and during warranty period
    • Assist in establishing job close-out schedules and implement specific procedures for close-out including submittals of as-builts, O&M manuals and Owner’s training
  • Communication experience
  • Experience multitasking and overseeing multiple projects and teams in different time zones and regions
  • Experience running meetings with multiple attendees and following up with participants for deliverables
  • Knowledge of mechanical, process piping, plumbing, electrical, and building control systems
  • Working knowledge with building facilities and operations
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience, with a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or similar (PE)
