Acoustic Research Engineer

We are looking for an exceptional Research Engineer to join our growing interdisciplinary team in Redmond, WA, working to solve difficult problems at the intersection of hearing, acoustics, mechanical design, auditory perception, spatial audio and signal processing. In this position, you will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists, and experience designers to advance the technical readiness of novel audio technologies. You will focus on integrating the latest audio technologies to a larger AR/VR system to create new experiences beyond what traditional consumer audio devices are capable of and prove the experiential value and product viability. The role requires a background in audio algorithm design, tuning and integration, and acoustic system engineering.

ACOUSTIC RESEARCH ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prototype an end-to-end audio signal chain on embedded systems
  • Develop system-level audio DSP models on real-time environments such as Simulink, AudioWeaver, or MaxMSP
  • Implement audio function blocks for Simulink, AudioWeaver, or MaxMSP
  • Port audio algorithms written in Matlab or C/C++ as building blocks to an integrated system
  • Design and implement benchmark test for to evaluate the subjective and objective performance of advanced audio systems, applying the end-to-end understanding of audio hardware and software subsystems
  • Define the performance metrics for core audio algorithms and translate these metrics to system level KPIs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field
  • 3+ years of industry experience in audio consumer electronics or audio technology development
  • Experience with real-time audio signal processing
  • Demonstrated experience of implementing real-time audio models on Simulink RealTime, AudioWeaver, or MaxMSP
  • Experience designing and implementing perceptual and objective audio performance tests
  • Experience working in cross-functional environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of experience of system engineer role catering to embedded platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with audio algorithms for hearing correction and enhancement
  • Demonstrated experience with audio render algorithms for spatial audio and propagation modeling
  • Demonstrated experience with audio capture algorithms for spatial source enhancement
  • Demonstrated experience of implementing and tuning adaptive audio algorithms
  • Experience in designing and performing acoustic experiments in controlled laboratory setting
  • Experience in perceptual evaluation of audio performance
