About the position:

F5 is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer with experience in building secure solutions at scale. You will participate in the design, implementation, and automation of secure-by-default solutions for F5's Edge 2.0 platform that is used to deploy global, scalable, and secure applications. Your work includes, but not limited to, hunting for opportunities for platform-level security improvements, bridging security defenders and software builders, and implementing framework-level changes to enhance security and defensibility of the platform.


  • Collaborate with software architects, security defenders, and business leaders to understand the requirements of security levels, visibility, and compliance obligations for software applications and the underlying platform
  • You will hunt for opportunities to create layers of abstractions in software stacks and deployment stacks to insert security, auditing, and monitoring capabilities
  • You will develop software and security solutions at platform level that will take advantage of the underlying Identity Management, Key Management, and Secrets Management systems as well as application development frameworks' wide reach
  • Demonstrate leadership by taking responsibility and ownership of software components that provide solutions to other parts of the platform for better security without understanding the underlying technical intricacies.
  • Hands-on coding in multiple languages while considering visibility, performance, scalability, maintainability, and flexibility
  • You will vet various open source and closed source technologies, components, libraries, tools etc. and help build a highly available, highly scalable and easily manageable system
  • Demonstrate technical leadership in multiple domain areas, providing mentorship to other team members

Minimum qualifications:
  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years of related experience ; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience.
  • 6+ years of software engineering and development experience
  • Ability to implement all phases of a development cycle for a software product from understanding requirements, going through design, development and deploy phases
  • Hands on experience with multiple computer programming languages such as Golang (must), Python, Java, C++
  • Good understanding of complexities and security challenges in large-scale distributed systems
  • Good understanding of security concepts like secure communication, data encryption, API security, secure logging and monitoring, data privacy, etc.
  • Working knowledge of at least one Cloud Computing platform (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Virtualization technologies like KVM, Docker etc.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud orchestration systems such as Kubernetes, Openstack etc.
  • Self-motivated and willing to delve into new areas and take on new challenges in an enthusiastic manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, team building, and mentoring skills
