Sr. Consultant- Professional Services

This is a senior level consulting position with a national focus that provides opportunity for setting the strategic goals and influencing the overall direction of the F5 Professional Services organization.

The primary location coverage is in the San Antonio, TX region!

You will be part of an innovative engineer working in partnership with our clients, advising them how to use technology solutions in order to meet their business objectives or overcome problems. They are thought leaders in the role, providing strategic guidance and subject matter expertise to customers with regard to implementation and configuration of the core F5 products.

You are the face of F5 while engaged on customer projects and a key contributor in fostering a positive relationship between customers and F5 through effective communication and successful delivery of the solutions. You will understand and articulate goals and critical success factors for the project, engage in collaborative dialogue to ensure client needs are met, and maintain timely communication.

Technology Focus

  • Provide expert technical guidance to customer onsite and/or remotely regarding the implementation, configuration and maintenance of the F5 products independently or with a team
  • Perform as project lead for problem identification, systems architecture definition, solution design, implementation, testing, client training, deployment, troubleshooting and documentation
  • Maintain working proficiency in F5 products and technologies through self-directed and formal training
  • Identify additional product/services opportunities in customer organization
  • Assist in the development of standard reusable F5 "productized" consulting service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables and standard estimates
  • Assist with the documentation of recommended practices in developing and deploying F5 solutions for reuse by F5 and Partner engineers
  • Participate in product SME lists, and provide feedback to all F5 technical teams including consulting, sales, product management and support.
  • Provide some mentoring to junior consultants
  • Stay in tune with business trends and internal F5 product strategy to guide delivery goals and solutions across the regions
  • Demonstrate ability to assess and direct technical resources to solve complex issue within the field.
  • Demonstrate superior product knowledge and facilitate team members' technical growth.
  • Effectively lead and deliver technical workshops
  • Educate F5 teams regarding F5 technology nuances in the field
  • Apply strategic thinking to complex issues and deliver well-rounded solutions through developing relevant action plans

Customer Management Focus
  • Lead project management activities including cost/schedule monitoring, scope management, project status update reports, and expectation management for the delivery of work products and associated risks
  • Manage customer interaction and engagement over the course of the assigned projects; maintain high level of command.
  • Engage with multiple F5 teams including but not limited to F5 Support, F5 Product Sales, and F5 Professional Services Sales
  • Will participate in sales and proposal presentations in addition to completing ongoing team account activities
  • Demonstrate ability to become trusted advisor within customer environment.
  • Negotiate tough client situations with both customer and F5 environment as needed to gain equitable solutions.
  • Demonstrate control of engagement and develop customer confidence in F5's ability to resolve escalations in a timely and effective manner

Other Responsibilities
  • Will mentor and guide newer consultants.
  • Act as regional technical advisor for escalation, issues and concerns within the field.
  • Act as point of contact for PS and actively collaborate with business development teams to ensure PS readiness for new service offerings and product features.
  • Responsible for upholding F5's Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven executive communication skills to disseminate information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Solid background in operational logistics, technical development and service portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the F5 products, capabilities, and services.
  • Proven field leadership capabilities with VP and C-Level clients.
  • Proven field experience to manage high level escalations and problem resolution.
  • Proven experience to work as part of a team of Engineers and to deliver one or several projects simultaneously.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently, while also able to share responsibilities, ideas and other information.
  • Experience with contract negotiations including statements of works, master services agreements and any other technical agreements.
  • Understanding of advanced technical concepts of networks, architecture, routers and security.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent network and security projects.
  • Understanding of technologies such as firewalling, application availability and security, web gateways, authentication/authorization, encryption, VPN's and network architecture.
  • LAN & WAN architecture knowledge and experience.
  • Industry certifications (CISA, CISSP, GIAC, Security+) a plus.

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, with a focus on architecture and design of network or systems infrastructure, performance and management
  • At least 5 years of experience in customer-facing positions as a professional services consultant or engineer

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Duties require the ability to travel up to 70% via automobile and airplane, and may require periodically outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Job may be performed on-site at a customer facility or data center, or in an office environment sitting at a desk or computer table. When not on-site at customer location, the position may be remote or at nearest F5 office.
  • Duties require the ability to utilize a computer / laptop, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.
  • Job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
