Security Engineer III - Information Security

Position Summary

As the Information Security Network Security Engineer, you will design, configure, deploy and maintain the comprehensive enterprise network security infrastructure for a global company. You will complete any necessary security reports and audit responses, ensure that F5 is compliant with all applicable regulations and participate in working groups for the development of security standards, and best practices. You will be recognized as the staff authority on firewall implementations at F5, sought out for input on such technology, and that action is not taken without your consultation.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, configure, deploy, and maintain the enterprise network security infrastructure.

• Analyze problems, recommend solutions, products, and technologies to meet business objectives.

• Actively protect information technology assets and infrastructure from external or internal threats.

• Implement firewall solutions to properly secure data and provide consultation on all new firewall implementations, firewall configuration changes, and projects requiring security operational support.

• Assist the end-user, other IT professionals, and external customers in implementation of configuration change requests.

• Recommend best security practices to achieve stated business objectives, advises on risk assumptions for any variances granted, and provides alternatives to achieve desired end results.

• Assist in incident response for any breaches, intrusions, or theft.

• Monitor systems for any anomalies, proper updating, and patching.

• Evaluates and performs planning, testing, and implementation of software and hardware upgrades.

• Maintains system documentation and configuration data.

• Coach and guide Service Desk and Desk Side Support technicians in their incident response, directing incident first responder actions, and appropriately escalating issues.

• Responsible for upholding F5's Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong familiarity with systems and security technologies, including application/OS hardening techniques, network protocols, network design, Syslog and logging, Security Event and Incident Management (SEIM), and incident response.

• Strong hands-on familiarity with network security solutions such as stateful firewalls, network & application firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, routing, and network segementation.

• Demonstrated expertise with Palo Alto and F5 Networks solutions and hardware.

• Advanced program/project management abilities.

• Recognizes that policies must be conceived and implemented in the context of a dynamic, customer-oriented, for-profit business environment

• Advanced written & verbal communications; superior interpersonal, planning, documentation, organization, and problem solving skills.

• Extensive ability to act independently; interface with people at all levels in the company, and take initiative to engage internal & external personnel/services to ensure effective & reliable systems.

Qualifications

• BS/BA or equivalent work experience in IT related field

• 6+ years of relevant work experience

• 4+ years working experience as a security engineer or equivalent

• Previous experience with networking gear such as Palo Alto, F5, and Cisco.

• Familiarity with enterprise productivity tools, such as O365, SharePoint, ServiceNow ticketing systems.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table.

• Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.

• Duties may require being on call periodically or working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 5% of the time spent traveling.

• Job may be performed on-site at a customer facility or data center, or in an office environment sitting at a desk or computer table.
