Position Summary: The New Product Introduction Engineer (NPI) is a senior engineer role focused on service/support readiness for the next generation of F5 products. This position requires strong knowledge of network security technologies, particularly at application level. The NPIE II is very familiar with enterprise architectures and business processes. Because of their close working relationships with product development, product management and business development functions, NPIE also have extensive knowledge of software development processes, development lifecycles, productization and release requirements.

As an NPIE , you will:

  • Represent the requirements of services personas in the development of new and enhanced product and service offerings
  • Create new product/ new release readiness materials for technical services personnel
  • Collaborate with product management teams and other stakeholders to influence company and product improvement and direction

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide services-related feedback into the product development cycle (50% of time)
    • Follow product lifecycles and escalate issues, track defects, request enhancements, attend design reviews, etc.
    • Contribute to design of new features and conversion of customer/internal requests into product requirements
    • Ensure new features are supportable and serviceable; be a champion for low-touch/ self-solve design
    • Develop support plans for new products
  • Produce technical content for internal training (30% of time)
    • Create web-based training (WBT) modules for new products and features
    • Develop on-line labs and lab guides to accompany WBTs
    • Create other value-added content to ensure service/support release readiness
    • Perform documentation reviews as requested
    • Present, facilitate or participate in internal knowledge sharing workshops and other opportunities
  • Keep current on advances in technologies related to assigned product or module (10% of time)
  • Participate in projects of any complexity with minimal need for supervision or assistance (10% of time)
    • Provide technical subject matter expertise as a member of a project team
    • Initiate or participate in broader efforts to improve customer satisfaction, product supportability
    • Act as a subject matter expert


Other Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for upholding F5's Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Expert technical knowledge in applications, protocols, network devices and technologies, particularly relating to WAF (Web Application Firewall) and anti-fraud: D/DoS, Web 2.0, HTTP/S, HTML, AJAX, JavaScript, WebSockets, MySQL, REST, JSON, malware techniques
  • Highly conversant with TLS/SSL attack vectors and L4 firewalls
  • Scripting and programming experience such as Perl, Tcl, Python, C
  • Administrator level proficiency in operating systems, particularly Linux
  • Demonstrated experience and expert-level knowledge of complex enterprise architectures, including cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and SOC facilities
  • Demonstrated success in troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Advanced knowledge of F5 products preferred, particularly BIG-IP Advanced WAF, BIG-IP Application Security Manager (ASM), WebSafe and MobileSafe
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, product development lifecycle planning, requirements processes and management of software development


  • Ability to function as an individual contributor to long term software development projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to articulate complex technologies to both technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications:
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 12 years relevant work experience in enterprise level, multi-tiered IT environments
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • F5 product experience and/or relevant experience in key competitor offerings
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering or similar degree/ equivalent work experience
  • Professional security certifications preferred such as CISSP, GCUX


Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table
  • Requires the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material
  • Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Requires the ability to travel via automobile or airplane; approximately 10% of the time spent travelling
  • Job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
