VP, Clinical Collaboration Management

Summary of Major Responsibilities

This position will lead a team of individuals to develop strategic clinical relationships across the globe with key academic medical centers, health delivery networks, and sample acquisition networks.  The primary objective is to create collaborative and sustained relationships that will result in the accelerated acquisition of biological samples for use in Exact Sciences’ product development and clinical research efforts.  This position is responsible for cultivating relationships with leading academic medical centers, integrated health delivery networks, or consortia of clinical researchers, negotiating collaboration agreements, and ensuring that those collaborations deliver against contract expectations.  These relationships are meant to endure across many years, not just for single studies, and may have R&D collaborations as part of the agreements – they are strategic in their nature.  The VP, Clinical Collaboration Management will ultimately manage individuals in several geographies and will leverage key individuals from around the company, particularly the VP, Clinical & Regulatory, to build, secure, and monitor these relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand key segments of the global clinical sample provision market and systematically identify key institutions or networks that can help Exact Sciences meet its research and sample acquisition goals
  • Develop relationships with priority medical academic centers, IDNs, sample acquisition consortia
  • Assess alignment of priority targets with Exact Sciences’ overall strategy and research/clinical needs
  • Create multi-year, strategic relationships that enable close collaboration and rapid deployment of clinical studies
  • Leverage Exact Sciences’ executive, commercial, R&D, medical, clinical, and product development relationships to surface and solidify priority target relationships; Develop clear, cross-functional strategies for developing, securing, and maintaining relationships
  • Regularly report on the pipeline of relationship development efforts and identify progress along the relationship development funnel
  • As appropriate, negotiate agreements with key target institutions that may include royalty arrangements and other financial/non-financial incentives
  • Build excitement for Exact Sciences R&D collaborations and clinical studies at key institutions through regular meetings and sharing of Exact product development priorities. Actively coordinate with Clinical Affairs and third-party CRO partners in the launch of new clinical studies
  • Ensure key clinical relationships are delivering against agreed upon/contractual parameters of the relationship; If underperforming, lead efforts to improve performance
  • Coordinate closely with the R&D, Pipeline, and Clinical Affairs functions to understand and support global project goals including site recruitment, patient recruitment, marketing and PR for clinical development projects, as appropriate
  • Participate in and support pipeline and other project teams
  • Coordinate closely with the Medical Affairs team to drive key KOL engagement at priority institutions
  • Maintain deep familiarity with clinical study protocols and operational plans as well as progress against patient recruitment and sample acquisition goals; Actively engage in improving performance at key sites as needed
  • Recruit, manage, and develop a team of global clinical relationship managers to meet team objectives
  • Attend off site-meetings and conferences as needed to build and solidify relationships
  • Conduct all activities in an ethically and legally compliant manner

  • Excellent organization and communication skills, including experience dealing with decision makers, such as health system administrators, leading physicians, clinical researchers, and IRB members

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple timelines, while maintaining the team focus
  • Strong leadership skills with geographically dispersed teams

 Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's of Science Health Sciences or a related field. MD/MBA/MPH/MS preferred
  • Minimum ten years experience in clinical research; Certification preferred (CCRC, CCRA,CCRP)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and securing strategic health care institution collaboration relationships, preferably with a CRO or other medical devices/diagnostics/pharmaceutical company
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, leading, and managing teams
  • Deep familiarity and/or experience with clinical study development, site recruitment, and site management
  • Proven knowledge of the broader clinical sample provision market

 Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 80% of time
  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and up to 6 hours at a time
  • Ability to travel (by land and air), both domestically and internationally, on occasion
  • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with employees, customers, and vendors in person, via the telephone or by email
  • Constant walking or motion to coordinate work and interact with co-workers.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis
