Software Engineer, Test Tooling

Etsy is seeking a Software Engineer (Test Tooling) to join the TEST team.  As Etsy grows, it is important to remove and reduce barriers to testing and increase our reliance on metrics.  The TEST team is responsible for implementing frameworks that reduce barriers to testing and surface the state of our codebase over time through measurement. The team has recently shipped projects that enable the engineering org to measure code coverage on multiple platforms, develop dashboards to surface production incidents and bugs in addition to coverage for new classes. The team is also working to implement JavaScript code coverage in addition to other high visibility projects.

You will be implementing frameworks and tools to support Etsy Engineering’s mission to pay down technical debt while also leveling up to ensure our frameworks are executed well in the cloud. Projects would include iterating on existing platforms and building new systems incorporating a mix of in-house and third party applications.

The technical staff at Etsy believes that code is craft, and that the work we do is part of a larger creative culture represented by the hundreds of thousands of inspired artists and designers who make Etsy such a unique marketplace. We believe that small, empowered, self-motivated teams can do big things. We believe in measuring everything, taking advantage of our pioneering continuous deployment system to ship code early and often, and a blameless culture based on trust and a commitment to learning. We primarily write in PHP and JavaScript.

This is an exciting time to join Etsy, as this engineering team embarks on next-generation work. It’s an opportunity to be part of the team that brings clarity to the  health and state of the engineering department.
