Senior Software Engineer, Seller Ad Engine
Etsy is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Ads Optimization & Infrastructure team. This opportunity is excellent for someone with a backend focus with interest in applying Machine Learning and Infrastructure to tackle user-facing problems.
The Etsy marketplace has an abundance of one-of-a-kind items from independent artists, designers and vintage collectors from around the world. These users constitute a dynamic global community of sellers who expect Etsy to help them scale their businesses through advanced advertising capabilities targeted at drawing buyers to their shops.
Are you passionate about empowering the growth of millions of small businesses?
About the Team
Our team is responsible for optimizing, ranking, and presenting ads on behalf of our sellers on Etsy’s website and mobile apps. This is an opportunity for you to play a major role in connecting our buyers with Etsy’s 60+ million listings through our ML-fueled ad platform.
As an engineer on this team, you will have the opportunity to be at the intersection of our search, infrastructure, and machine learning technologies, each of which we leverage to resolve real user problems. This is also a great opportunity to learn about and contribute to these spaces while directly impacting Etsy’s growth as a business.
We’re a cross-functional group of engineers, data scientists, product managers, designers, and researchers.
Here’s a taste of the problems we’re solving:
How do we maintain a pipeline that scales for our 40+ million buyers and sellers?
How does the team ensure that the right ads are put in front of the right buyers?
How can we help our sellers set bids to achieve the highest rate of return?
How do we rank millions of ads in a matter of milliseconds, so that we’re giving our buyers the best experience while maximizing revenue?
How can we detect bad actors in our system to protect sellers?
Your work will span our stack, touching Scala, PHP, Python, Java, Solr, and GCP; we are proud to have an engineering culture that supports career growth and learning. You can learn more about our philosophies, tools, and some of the challenges we’ve been solving on our Engineering blog:
