Senior Principal, Applications Architect

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY
The Applications Architect ensures that the company-developed software applications and integrations align with the organization's business goals. The Applications Architect is responsible for all aspects of architecture, standards, and practices related to application development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and implements technical architecture and infrastructure necessary to support application development
  • Reviews functional requirements for architectural and security concerns
  • Prepares and documents technical designs and solutions along with their associated project task descriptions and effort estimates
  • Develops and enforces application development standards, including secure development practices
  • Uses industry standards and the company's systems architecture, design techniques, and development standards to review new work to ensure it complies with standards
  • Performs new development, enhancements, and maintenance of application development infrastructure needed to meet business requirements
  • Assists other teams to troubleshoot application issues in production, quality assurance, demonstration, and other environments
  • Collaborates with QA automation group to design and implement technical architecture and infrastructure necessary to support automated acceptance testing
  • Responsible for SCM, build automation, and DevOps standards and infrastructure needed to support Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery practices
  • Mentors software developers and IT staff members in areas of development technique and practices
  • Documents resolutions to system problems


REQUIREMENTS

Basic
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably a Computer Science or related degree) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in Software Development to include: Senior Developer or Development Team Lead experience


Preferred

Minimum of 8 years' experience in Java platform development to include:
  • Java Enterprise Edition (preferably under JBoss/WildFly)
  • Java MVC web application framework (preferably Java Server Faces)
  • Java dependency injection framework (preferably Spring Framework)
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Version Control, SCM, and CI/CD toolsets (preferably Subversion, Git, Gradle, and Jenkins)
  • Automated Unit and/or Acceptance testing frameworks (preferably JUnit, Spock)
  • Background in Securities/Banking/Financial Services
  • Java IDE (preferably IntelliJ IDEA)
  • Unix/Linux (preferably RedHat/CentOS)
  • RESTful web services
  • XML and XML Schema
  • JDBC and JPA/Hibernate
  • Relational DB principles using Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • NoSQL or post-relational database (preferably MongoDB)
  • Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Issue management system
  • Use of a wiki for documentation

Other
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to identify root causes and implement and document appropriate solutions to system issues
  • Highly self-motivated, with the ability to complete tasks with minimal guidance, and to learn independently
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills in working in a cross-functional team comprised of Product Manager, QA, Development, and Project Manager
  • Ability to manage and prioritize individual and group tasks
  • Must work with Product Management to review, approve, and prioritize application architecture, infrastructure, and feature designs
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic skills with Excel spreadsheets and Word documents
  • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux, Apple Mac OS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems
