Senior Software Product Engineer - Field Apps

If you were here in the last few months, some of the things you would have done are:

  • Led a feature project sub-team to create new features for our apps that are fit for purpose
  • Coordinated with our release group to ensure update versions of two different apps were released to Android, Apple, and Microsoft stores and shared to our own product pages
  • Led the testing of our apps in the office and in the field assuming different customer personas to ensure our new features and bug fixes work as intended
  • Answered questions and troubleshot issues with customers on forums or in consultation with our tech support team, identifying opportunities for improvement in our apps or documentation
  • Reviewed and wrote documentation (technical documentation, blogs, and videos) that were published along with the release to tell customers what was new and what was fixed

Responsibilities

  • Lead in the delivery of regular high-quality releases of our field apps that address users' needs
  • Lead feature project sub-teams to create new features for our apps that are fit for purpose, using best practice project management techniques and tools
  • Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of onsite holistic testing events and ensure outcomes are incorporated into our software development cycle
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, testers and other stakeholders across the different teams in Esri
  • Understand and articulate user workflows and define user requirements through testing and analysis of software functions, user interfaces, GIS methods and practices
  • Test software to ensure both development goals and real-world use cases are met
  • Document features, workflows, and functionality for users

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a creator and user of field work data collection solutions, including use of both paper and electronic tools
  • Understanding of field data collection processes including GNSS receivers and workflows; knowledgeable of various mobile platforms and aware of capabilities and limitations for each
  • Experience with the following: Survey123, QuickCapture, Field Maps, and Collector
  • Experience with the following: Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Linux shell scripts
  • Experience with webhook integration solutions such as Microsoft Power Automate or Make
  • Experienced and comfortable working with the following technologies:

    • iOS, Android, and Windows operating systems
    • Desktop, server, and mobile GIS
  • Ability to work closely with and lead the team to build quality software in a constantly evolving environment
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with project management tools (for example: Jira, GitHub, and/or Confluence)
  • Bachelor's in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or related field
  • Existing work authorization for Australia

Recommended Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge Open Data Kit (ODK), GeoODK, ODK Collect, Enketo, Fulcrum, form.io, KoBoCollect, CSPro, iFormBuilder, or ONA
