Conflation Product Engineer

Overview

Share your experiences in data integration, spatial analysis, and spatial data updating and quality improvement. Design and build solutions in these areas to support ArcGIS users so they can accomplish these tasks with ease and confidence. Our conflation project team is dedicated to developing tools and workflows with state-of-the-art intelligence and techniques, and to exploring the use of hybrid approaches to meet future challenges. In this role, you will contribute to building comprehensive, cutting-edge, and high-quality software solutions that empower ArcGIS users to fulfill their analysis and mapping needs by keeping their data accurate and up-to-date efficiently.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze use cases and functional requirements
  • Collaborate with team members and other teams; communicate conceptual ideas, methodology, and design rationale
  • Design and execute automated and manual tests as needed
  • Design and create models and scripts as needed; help build workflows
  • Ensure quality software by identifying and isolating problems, issuing change requests, and testing and verifying fixes
  • Assist in assessing product quality and release readiness
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies in change detection, data updating, and multi-scale mapping
  • Be a strong advocate for our users
  • Participate in new tool design and write design documents
  • Write well-explained and clearly illustrated software documentation
  • Help create guidelines, case studies, presentations, and demos

Requirements

  • A passion for building high-quality software for data integration and quality improvement
  • Strong spatial, analytical, and mapping science background
  • Four or more years of experience using Esri’s suite of software products
  • Experience in data integration, quality assessment, spatial adjustment, and transformation
  • Experience in tool design and building workflows
  • Two or more years of Python scripting experience
  • Ability to carry out analysis and testing systematically and thoroughly, to decompose complex issues, and get to the bottom of problems
  • Detail oriented with effective time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A self-motivated team player with an interest in continuous learning
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in GIS, geography, surveying and mapping, or related field

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Strong, in-depth understanding of coordinate systems, data accuracy, map scales, and projections
  • Experience using ArcGIS Geoprocessing tools, ModelBuilder, and Editor
  • Strong skills in spatial analysis and in presenting results statistically and graphically
  • Experience working with and creating geoprocessing tools with Python
  • Experience with a commercial RDBMS and enterprise geodatabases
  • Familiarity with user interface guidelines/principles
  • Two or more years of hands-on software testing experience
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Confidence and ability to communicate and collaborate with other team members
  • Working knowledge of the software process
