Job Description

Provide leadership position for all hotel personnel: directly for Executive Committee and indirectly for management and non-management positions.

Establish plans of character, integrity, and of quality, which results in the continued life, growth and profitability of the business. Accepts responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of the hotel guest and employees. Be accountable for all personnel action, assets, and private property and the end results of their use. Represent the hotel to civic, business, industry and local government. Have complete authority, responsibility and accountability as it encompasses the hotel, except where authority is expressly denied in writing.

General Management

  • Maintain open working relationship with all stakeholders - Hotel Ownership and Corporate Team.
  • Supervise and develop performance of all hotel operating departments.
  • Conduct regular briefings and meetings with department managers to check performance progress, goal & objective updates and ensure constant communication.
  • Create, implement and ensure full compliance of operating controls, SOP's, policies, procedures and service standards.
  • Lead all key property initiatives including pre-opening/renovation plans and capital projects.
  • Responsible for handling all guest and employee concerns, complaints and issues including prompt investigation and resolution.
  • Promote hotel in industry or trade organizations.
  • Ensure regular upkeep, repair and overall general maintenance of hotel and system of on-going maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Human Resources

Financial
  • Responsible for the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of hotel's Operating Budget, Sales and Marketing Plan and Capital and Renovation Budget (as needed).
  • The ability to manage on-going profitability of the hotel, ensuring revenue, payroll, cost of sales and operating costs and goals are met if not exceeded.
  • The ability to develop and implement cost savings initiates and strategies.
  • The ability to analyze and manage Profit and Loss.
  • The ability to prepare monthly ownership reports.
  • Ensure that monthly financial outlooks for Rooms, Food & Beverage, and Sales are on target and accurate. Review and identify areas of concern and develop plans to address as needed.
  • The ability to work with Sales and Revenue Management teams to maximize room yield and hotel revenue through innovative sales practices and yield management programs.
  • The ability to assist with procurement of operating supplies and equipment, and contracting with third-party vendors for essential equipment and services as necessary.

Qualifications

Skills, Educational and/or Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive combined experience in 5-star luxury hotel, with minimum of 3 years in leadership role (General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Director of Operations, Hotel Manager, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in the process of creating and implementing new concepts in a hotel or hospitality establishment.
  • Demonstrated business acumen including but not limited to analyzing business levels, scheduling efficiencies, short and long term goal planning, budgeting, forecasting and profit/loss analysis.
  • Excellent and fluent knowledge of all aspects of hotel business management including sales, front and back of house operations, food & beverage operations, P&L and financial management, capital projects and facilities management.
  • Prior "Lifestyle" brand experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in NYC Labor Union required. Ability to manage a large, diverse and unionized workforce.
  • Knowledge and experience in computers including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local legislation related to hotel operations a must.
  • Excellent and efficient time management skills and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with guests, management and team members.
  • Ability to effectively handle challenges in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems, complaints and concerns as necessary.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, clients and vendors as necessary.
  • Able to work flexible schedule in order to accommodate business levels.
