About the Opportunity
The Database Marketing group at Epsilon is seeking a hands-on Sr. Manager of Database Development to implement, maintain, and support applications for hosted Database Marketing systems. A hands-on Sr. Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of a team of technologists in support of client specific solution. Technology managers must possess solid experience in large scale database technology, relational database design and implementation, strong knowledge of the client’s solution specific operating systems in addition to the managerial skills.

 

Essential Functions
  • Oversees database administration, design, and development
  • Develops and implements business plans, policies, and procedures
  • Collaborates with other departments to prioritize database development needs
  • Oversees subordinates performing database maintenance and enhancements
  • Evaluates results within business unit to determine if organizational objectives are being met
  • Analyzes and resolves database development and administration issues and needs as related to design, coding, and modification of databases and database applications
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel ensuring efficient operation of the function
  • Manages career paths by coaching and mentoring direct reports
  • Holds associates accountable for their work by setting expectations, achieving commitments, providing feedback, and evaluating effectiveness
  • Provides technical leadership in the organization
  • Provides direction to individual contributors

Knowledge & Skills

  • Able to apply innovative approaches to solving design and technical issues
  • Able to oversee the design of databases according to company and/or industry standards and make tuning recommendations
  • Able to understand complex queries
  • Excellent knowledge of database administration, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and systems analysis procedures
  • Excellent working knowledge of database software and operating systems
  • Familiarity with design and implementation of large-scale relational databases for decision support
  • Proven expertise in relational database design, administration, and support
  • Solid data modeling skills
  • Able to communicate effectively, upwards and downwards within the organizational structure
  • Able to solve complex problems and issues
  • Able to recognize and manage new business opportunities

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, plan and maintain "best-of-breed" marketing database solutions
  • Implement, manage, and support production infrastructure
  • Environments may include several smaller marketing technology solutions (campaign database, reporting environment, ETL systems, etc.) or a single large scale solution within an overall enterprise solution
  • Create technical design and operational documentation
  • Enhance and execute detailed project plans.
  • Lead small to mid-size development teams (including offshore developers)
  • Ability to scope technical tasks and effectively manage developers to stay within project timelines and budgets
  • Synthesize relevant information on success and risks and escalate critical issues appropriately
  • Work closely with the technology vendors on software fixes and enhancements for supported environments
  • Interface with client team SMEs and 3rd party vendors when appropriate
  • Ensure adoption of group standards for development, process, and controls

Technical Requirements

  • 7-10+ years of industry experience developing consumer-facing enterprise software implementation/integration projects
  • At least 5+ years of experience leading technical teams
  • Proven experience and technical leadership in relational database design, administration, and support
  • Familiar with design and development of large-scale database applications
  • Procedural language experience in supported database environment required
  • Experience building Web Services and consuming REST/SOAP APIs
  • Experience with web-based software development languages (Java, .NET, Javascript, Perl, Python, etc.)
  • Big Data, NoSQL, Document-based database experience (eg. MongoDB, Hadoop, SAPHana)
  • Familiarity and background working with Content Management Systems (Adobe, Sitecore, Drupal, etc.) and integrating with an enterprise CRM platform
  • Database clustering experience is a plus
  • Experience in an OLTP environment highly desired

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5+ years of experience in a successful client-facing role
  • Ability to consolidate business and technical requirements and model data appropriately
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to mentor application developers in regard to database design
  • Self-motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic environment with focus on team and delivering results

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a related field
  • Significant leadership experience required

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
