EF International Language Centers
San Diego, CA
The EF International School of English in San Diego is looking for talented and exceptional individuals to join its team of Resident Advisers! We seek motivated, responsible, dynamic, and community-building individuals to take on the exciting challenge of working in an international environment. Previous experience as a Resident Adviser is always a plus, but it is not required!
About the School:
EF is an international language school that accepts students from all around the world to come to San Diego and learn English! The San Diego school has recently opened a brand new campus in Point Loma! In addition to our Host Family students, this campus will hold about 700 residence students. We are anticipating a lot of growth in the upcoming year, and for this reason, we are looking to add to our team of Resident Advisors!
About the Position:
As an RA at EF you have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a highly diverse student population and a high-energy staff. The position provides great flexibility and requires you to wear many hats including administrator, leader, event coordinator, role model, counselor, and policy enforcer to name a few. This is one job where we truly ask you to bring your personality to the position.
You will have the amazing chance to get to know and work with an incredible population of international students. All shifts occur during nights and weekends, making this a perfect part-time job for someone in school or working a typical 9-5 job. All weekday shifts start at or after 6 PM.
While on duty, you will be performing administrative tasks, and be on-call in the residence. We also ask that you help plan and organize two activities and a floor social per month for the students. There will also be weekly room checks and bi-weekly staff meetings.
The part-time nature of the position also allows for the flexibility to pursue a graduate degree in related fields or maintain a "day job." Taking night classes cannot conflict with desk duty during the week. There may be rare but occasional requests for RAs to cover the Concierge Desk during the day.
Benefits of the Position:
As an RA at the EF International School of English you receive a free room and board. In addition this, you will receive $11.50/hr for all of your assigned shifts.
We are 40,500 staff, faculty and teachers, working in 500 offices and schools across 52 countries. While we continue to grow, we strive to stay small so as to ensure agility, smart thinking and a fun place to work. For the past 50 years, EF has grown to include a range of programs that give students of all ages the freedom and confidence to explore the world through language, travel and education.
Located across the globe, our language centers for youth, adults and professionals combine the best of traditional, in-school teaching with innovative language-learning technology. We offer intensive language instruction abroad in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Chinese. Courses run from 2 to 52 weeks for students traveling independently or in escorted groups of all levels and abilities. Classes take place in our international language centers in one of 16 countries and offer the very best locations and accommodation whether in local host family or in a student residence.
What We're Looking For:
As mentioned above, the job does not require past experience as a Resident Advisor. However, a background working in education or hospitality may be useful! RAs will be asked to take charge during nights and weekends while the admin staff is absent, so applicants who demonstrate they are energetic and ready take the lead are appreciated. RAs are also tasked with making personal connections with our students, so we seek candidates that are passionate about helping our international student body make San Diego feel like their home.
We are currently hiring for one immediate opening and four summer positions. The summer positions will be a six week contract from June 26 - Mid-August. However, with good performance, there may be an option to sign on for future contract periods.
Applications without a Cover Letter may not be considered.
