The Procurement Manager Role
When you work in operations at EF, you play a vital role in fulfilling the company’s mission: Opening the World Through Education. As a Procurement Manager you will have ownership of all aspects of one or more of our top travel destinations and will be a key member of the passionate, high-achieving and fun Product & Operations Team. In this highly visible leadership role, you are responsible for setting the strategic direction of your destination(s) and executing on that strategy with your team. Your team is the face of EF Explore America to our suppliers, responsible for identifying new suppliers (e.g., hotels, restaurants, and attractions), managing existing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and strategically securing inventory with suppliers. Your team is recognized internally as the destination expert and will work cross-functionally with other production teams to produce the tours we run. Your team will collaborate closely with the Finance team to set and manage budgets throughout the year. You will initially oversee a Procurement Specialist to help execute your strategy. You will report directly to the Director of the Procurement Team.
You’ll work with suppliers:
- Managing existing partnerships with suppliers to success.
- Prospecting for new suppliers to meet the needs of our growing business.
- Negotiating contracts that create win-win relationships around capacity, quality, and price.
- On-boarding new suppliers to ensure they understand and are prepared to serve our customers.
- Monitoring customer feedback on supplier quality and intervening when necessary.
- Becoming an expert on the student travel industry and crafting strategic and innovative approaches to contracting and relationship management based on that expertise.
You’ll lead your team:
- Managing the day-to day-activities and performance of your Procurement Specialist
- Set team goals that align with strategic business objectives
- Develop and monitor your team’s KPIs and assist in creating improvements
- Establish individualized development plans with staff in accordance to their skills, attributes, and goals
- Facilitate ongoing training, professional development, and career growth for your staff
You’ll work alongside your Procurement colleagues:
- Analyzing travel patterns and inventory availability to understand sourcing needs and set goals.
- Sharing travel industry knowledge and best practices around negotiation and contracting.
- Managing operational budgets.
You’ll work with colleagues across the Product & Operations Team:
- Creating and monitoring inventory allocation strategies to optimize supplier relationships and customer experience.
- Participating in cross-functional working groups and new initiatives to evolve best practices.
- Adding your ideas and expertise to the product development process.
This position requires:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- 2+ years of procurement/sourcing, contracting, negotiation experience
- 2+ years of experience managing a team
- Strong skills in building and maintaining relationships
- Ability to travel (supplier visits, conferences, trips to corporate office in Boston)
- Driver’s license
- Budgeting and budget management skills
