Position Overview:

This position will begin in the University Advising Office in February and will transition to the Counseling Office in May. This school counselor and college counselor hybrid position will report to the Director of University Advising (February-May) and the Director of Guidance (May-June). He/she will work collaboratively with other counselors as a valuable team member overseeing the university, academic and social welfare of students at EF Academy in New York. This person works in a boarding school environment and fully understands the importance of being both flexible and patient when it pertains to policies and procedures.

College Counseling Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with a caseload of juniors to begin the college process. This will include classroom presentations, testing planning and registration, individual student meetings, introducing Naviance and college exploration.
  • Assist seniors in any college related needs in wrapping up their college planning.
  • Compile data for reporting.
  • Work in a collaborative role with the Director and Associate Director of University Advising.
School Counseling Responsibilities:
  • Academic Counseling, class changes, academic support (arrange tutoring, student teacher meetings, one-on-one work)
  • Promoting students’ understanding of both their rights and responsibilities as school and community citizens; maintaining and defining procedures in the Student Handbook and the school’s Code of Conduct.
  • Facilitating conflict resolution and mediation between roommates, classmates, friends, faculty, administrators, and family members.
  • Meet with students having emotional issues, disciplinary problems, academic problems that adversely affected their lives.
  • Send and receive information to worldwide admissions office’s pertaining to student’s lives, issues, requests and educational future.
  • Communicate with parents in collaboration and with the support of the worldwide admissions office’s
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in School Counseling
  • Demonstrate a “can-do” attitude
  • Demonstrates successful experience in working with adolescents in an educational setting
  • Excellent organizational and human relations skills
  • Ability to organize work and set priorities to meet changing deadlines
