Role's Purpose

The Country Director is a critical, regional Edwards leadership role in facilitating the company's growth, the engagement of our employees, and the execution of the Institutional Relations agenda.

The Country Director is responsible for leading the Country Leadership Team in the deployment of the Edwards regional strategy, to ensure that all business and functional commitments are maintained, while advancing the Edwards' culture and the corporate commitment to talent engagement, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

They are also responsible for Edwards' Social, Environmental and Governance responsibilities are maintained per the unique requirements of their Country/region of responsibility and, where applicable, may have specific responsibilities to facilitate commercial negotiations and access to senior commercial administrators.

It is expected that the Country Director has the experience and competence to deeply understand the Edwards' regional strategy and elevate opportunities and threats in a timely manner to enable the company to maximize growth opportunities. It is also expected that the Country Leader is a trusted partner and a champion of Edwards Credo, values, and culture.

Within the framework of deployment of the Edwards regional strategy at country level, being responsible for collaboratively Leading the Country Leadership Team means:

  • Based on a deep understanding of the regional strategy and business and functional objectives, assess, and elevate opportunities and threats to ensure the local agenda is prioritized and the defined CLT strategic objectives are met through the effective use of company resources.
  • Cultivate and promote a strong company culture consistent with our credo and aspirations and champion/lead local Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging initiatives.
  • Localize regional and corporate communication and champion employee engagement. Create a positive, innovative work environment which encourages people to grow and thrive while being highly effective in their roles.
  • When necessary, collaborate with functional leaders to mediate (to resolve) complex situations that can arise in a matrix environment in a constructive manner
  • When required, lead country level crisis management: Communication and implementation of company guidelines and local regulations.
  • As required and when granted the power of attorney, act on behalf of the local entity

The Country Director is also directly accountable for the corporate role of Institutional Relations in alignment with the regional government affairs strategy, and to facilitate an advanced execution of the regional public affairs strategy. Within the framework of the Regional and Country Public Affairs Plan, being accountable for Institutional Relations, namely:

  • Be accountable of the in-country relations with following Institutions: Prime Minister office, Members of National Parliaments, Treasury, Ministry of Finance, Economy and Health.
  • Be accountable to strengthen and maintain a network of elected politicians and policymakers to establish trust-based relationship with Edwards
  • Be accountable to represent the Company in Trade Associations Boards, Think-Thanks Boards, and execute the coalition building Public Affairs agenda in these stakeholders' settings
  • Act as a company spokesperson when requested and in alignment with EMEACLA Corp. Communications to promote, build, and protect the company's reputation and facilitate the execution of the Regional external communication and patients' advocacy strategies when implemented in countries

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent Experience as a business unit manager/ general manager overseeing cross functional areas at country level Required and
  • Experience developing and executing complex strategies at country level Required
  • Other: in MBA, PharmD, PhD, MD with a Fellowship in Outcome Research or Pharmacoeconomics strongly preferred
  • Experience in conducting health economics, patient-reported outcomes, retrospective data analyses, epidemiology or health services research projects highly Preferred
  • Experience developing pharma/health-economic models, either for publication or for interactive use with customers Preferred
  • Experience working in a regulated industry Preferred
  • Fluent in Dutch -Preferred

Role's requirements:

An experienced medical device industry professional, with proven reputation and standing who:

  • Has the experience and competence to deeply understand the Edwards' regional strategy and elevate opportunities and threats in a timely manner to enable the company to maximize growth opportunities.
  • Understands country health, economic, social issues, and trends, and preferably has a more than 5 years track record in developing networks among government officials, policy makers and payers
  • Has proven ability to translate company and regional vision and live the Edwards credo and culture
  • Trusted advisor to senior management who derives authority through leadership, vision, and influence and with the emotional maturity to lead others through persuasion rather than direct control
  • Excellent communication and presentation as well as influencing skills
  • Able to lead multiple projects and operate in a complex, fast-paced, international matrix environment and can manage inevitable ambiguities
  • can motivate and build confidence at every level, can relate and network with key stakeholders at the highest levels externally and within the company.
  • Others perceive as trustworthy, this person's energy, enthusiasm and adaptability are keys to his/her success.
  • Provides stability in the role to build long term trust as well as relationships and partnerships

Due to the nature of the role and the great focus on the Dutch market, we consider someone based in the Netherlands commuting regularly to Brussels also Dilbeek (Benelux main office).
