Job Description

You will work closely with Ebates' CEO and executive team, Rakuten, and external partners to define Ebates' strategic direction and ensure internal teams are aligned with this direction. You will play a pivotal role in shaping many of Ebates' strategic decisions and you will have lots of opportunity to make an enormous impact on the company's success in the short and long-term.

This is full-time position that affords the flexibility to work from our Northern California offices (San Francisco, CA, or San Mateo, CA)

As the Director of Corporate Strategy, you will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects at a time, have direct interaction with all levels of the company including senior management, and be expected to influence and drive change throughout the organization. You are likely to become the first call when a potential idea is conceived and will serve as a thought partner and sounding board to leaders throughout the company.

This position reports to our CEO although you will be working closely with our Chief Growth Officer. This position provides unparalleled access to senior management and is a potential stepping stone to further operational and management roles within Ebates and Rakuten over time.

Responsibilities


  • Lead and manage Ebates' long term and annual strategic planning processes. Includes establishing the company's strategic priorities, filtering Rakuten corporate-level strategy down to relevant activities and investments, and ensuring alignment across businesses and functions.

  • Conduct analysis and condense into key insights and recommendations.

  • Lead preparation of Executive and Board-level internal and external partnership communications and presentations.

  • Ownership for Ebates' target market definition and opportunity sizing by industry vertical and sub-segment, and across various company size ranges.

  • Participate in or lead ad hoc special "internal consulting" projects at the request of the CEO or other executives. These projects are wide-ranging and could include matters related to pricing, packaging, sales strategy/operations, process improvement, business/investment cases, market research, new product/service formations, international strategy, strategic partnerships etc.

  • Assist with ad hoc Mergers & Acquisitions activity as it arises including deal screening, due diligence, financial analysis, post-merger integration.

  • Participate in and/or facilitate Executive and Board-level strategy discussions.

Qualifications

  • Computer Science or Technical degree strongly preferred.

  • 4-6 years of experience in management consulting and/or equivalent corporate strategy; candidates with investment banking and/or private equity experience will be considered.

  • Demonstrated interest in technology and how what drives successful innovation and inorganic business growth.

  • Enjoy operating in an unstructured, fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive a strategic planning process as well as manage large complex projects - often several in parallel.

  • Cross-functional collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to make critical decisions and influence others.

  • Creative problem-solver, with strong analytical skills, the ability to find external research and synthesize incomplete information into credible recommendations.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Mastery of Powerpoint and other presentation programs.

  • Well-honed communication and presentation skills, including mastery of Excel or equivalent.

  • Ability to establish rapport and build trust quickly at all levels of the organization.
