Lead Engineer - Tooling

United States

Eaton's Las Piedras Division is currently seeking for a Tooling Engineer to join our team.

State the primary function or overall purpose of your position.

Tooling engineer shall specialize in creating tooling designs for existing products, as well as developing new designs.

Is the key project management buddy in implementing strategies, planning, coordinating and executing projects related to improvements, upkeep and maintenance of production tool and dies.

Responsibilities:

  • List the essential functions that must be performed in order to fulfill the purpose of your position as described above.
  • Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods and processes through tool and dies update.
  • Designs and plan tool and dies preventive maintenance program to ease downtime.
  • Analyze and review tool room needs to determine current and future equipment needs.
  • Coordinates with the design group concerning tooling design to ensure efficient product introduction.
  • Coordinates with tooling suppliers the manufacturing and qualification of new tools.
  • Evaluate production tool and dies according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Upkeep and maintain tool and die drawings.
  • Troubleshoot dies related to a quality and production issues.
  • Supervise tool room personnel in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Communicate with raw materials suppliers as to improve product quality that in turns extend dies through put.
  • Interfaces with Process Engineers in the implementation of new projects and technology
  • Updates and maintains spare parts database for all production tooling
  • Ensure operations meet internal and external standards, such as but not limited: ISO 9000 or process continuous improvement requests.
  • Offer technical assistance to quality assurance or manufacturing personnel.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product development, and manufacturing departments to provide product recommendations.
  • Responsible of creating capital and purchases requisitions, request and follow up supplier quotes on product cost and lead times and obtain vendor bids on equipment repair services.
  • Minimum travel to vendor sites to review technical aspects and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Analyze technical material, such as schematic diagrams or engineering drawings, and work with management personnel to develop standards for new product development.
  • Strong program management abilities to effectively develop systems or oversee personnel Capital.
  • Solid skills on the coordination and completion of projects on time within budget and within scope. Oversee all aspects of projects. Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor and summarize progress of project. Prepare reports for upper management regarding status of project.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical, Metallurgy or Tooling Engineering or related technical field.
  • Five (5) plus years of experience in required area of expertise.
  • Strong background in tool and dies maintenance.
  • Detailed knowledge on construction of tool and dies.
  • Hand on ability to troubleshoot equipment related to punch press/ molding.
  • Fully bilingual
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Computer literate; Windows, Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, SolidWorks, AutoCad or any other tooling design related software.
  • Ability to design, improve tooling in 2D and 3D
  • Excellent project management skills.
