The Indirect Tax Leader for the Middle East reports to the Indirect Tax Manager for EMEA (excluding Germany) and has the main responsibility to supervise all Eaton Indirect Tax (known as Value Added Tax or VAT) related activities and matters in accordance with the Indirect Tax legislation applicable in Middle-East countries, covering 6 countries with 12 VAT registrations, as well as to identify and control the wide risks pertaining to VAT accounting, compliance and reporting to Tax Authorities.

Essential Funcitons:

  • Coordinate and manage periodic VAT reporting for Eaton businesses in the region, with support of Eaton Operations and Pune VAT COE, to ensure timely preparation and submission of all VAT returns, and VAT payments in line with Eaton VAT Controls Framework. Review of documentation and transactions to ensure accurate monthly VAT filings.
  • Research, monitor and analyze indirect tax legislation and regulations, and changes in Eaton businesses to identify, assess and report VAT impact(s) due to those changes.
  • Conduct VAT risk assessment in line with Eaton VAT Controls Framework, and report on monthly basis new findings and actions taken to mitigate risks pertaining to VAT accounting and reporting.
  • Review VAT calculations -prepared by Eaton's Indirect Tax Compliance Center of Excellence (COE)-, backed-up with due documentation, and be able to submit VAT refund claims for Eaton entities and Eaton VAT registrations (where and when in VAT refundable positions) in Middle-East countries.
  • Coordinate, manage and build technical VAT arguments to ensure timely response to queries from tax authorities, including VAT audits and VAT refund claims, voluntary tax disclosures. Communicate with Tax Authorities in the region until VAT audits and VAT refunds are closed.
  • Help design, define, implement and test VAT aspects in various projects, being part of a project team or by providing active support to Eaton Project Manager(s) and other business functions.
  • Communicate and correspond with Eaton Operations and maintain excellent relationships with them.
  • Support in conducting tax training sessions with various stakeholders as and when required.
  • Assist in developing and implementing VAT strategies, policies and procedures for VAT accounting, compliance, and audits.
  • Provide tax advice/support on various service lines / business projects.
  • Cooperate with Direct tax and Transfer Pricing teams to align on the tax strategy and business model for the region.
  • Support ERP system projects in the region related to indirect taxes and other tax technology related topics such as implementation of e-invoicing/e-reporting.
  • Responsible for and supervising the implementation of VAT in countries within the region which are adopting a VAT system, including but not limited to: assessing business impacts, understanding IT systems and business processes that are affected by VAT, partnering with IT teams in their implementation and testings, with the goal maximizing the review of VAT processes from an ERP point of view and from a reporting/submitting point of view.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance/ Tax, professional accounting or tax qualification is considered a great asset (Being a Tax Agent in UAE is desirable)
  • 3+ years of progressive Indirect Tax (Value Added Tax) experience in Middle-East (especially in GCC region) within a multinational company or in a Big 4 / other Firm
  • Expertise in compliance processes related to indirect taxes and practical experience with preparation and filing of VAT returns, and VAT refund claims
  • Excellent technical and practical knowledge about VAT in Middle East countries. (Especially in GCC)
  • Ability to deal with the Tax Authorities directly, with demonstration of soft skills as well as technical knowledge and experience
  • General knowledge of Tax Technology (Taxology).
  • Experience of using ERP systems (especially SAP) and Value Added Tax implementations is desirable.
  • Understanding of VAT laws and accounting standards.
  • Exposure to US GAAP or IFRS, Sarbanes Oxley or similar Internal Control procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate complex topics in an effective and concise manner.
  • Very strong attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks and willing to roll up one's sleeves to get the job done.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, and being proactive.
  • Ability to operate effectively with people at all levels of the business
  • Team Player: partners with more than 150 people located in Ops, VAT Pune COE and Global Tax team
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Fluent English (Arabic is Desirable)
  • Good leadership potential and takes strong ownership
  • Ability to operate in a complex, remote, and cross-functional environment with autonomy.
