What you'll do:

The primary function of the Controls & Automation Technician is to support the Controls Engineering Team by helping troubleshoot down equipment. When not troubleshooting the Controls & Automation Technician will assist Controls Engineers with project tasks. Opportunity to build the skill set needed to start a career in a Controls Field.

Essential Functions:

  • Will use electrical, mechanical, and software-based tools to assist group with troubleshooting tasks and evaluate if the problem is significant enough to require further intervention from controls or design engineering.
  • Assist Controls Engineers with the completion of large capital projects. Tasks may involve setup of new PLC and drive systems, procurement of materials needed for the project and assistance with creating or reviewing electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Participate in deep dive investigations to determine the root cause of persistent issues with plant equipment. Investigations will often involve multifunctional teams and utilize common problem-solving tools such as 5-Why, 8D and fish bone charts.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diplomat and/or actively taking classes towards a degree/certificate
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
  • Experience in computer programing software such as visual basic/studio, SQL, and other Microsoft applications.
  • Experience with PLC, HMI programming and safety systems design.
  • Rockwell Software (RS and Factory Talk)
  • RS Logix 5, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME, FactoryTalk SE, VB6,
  • Demonstrated ability to work with little direction and effectively operate in a team-oriented environment.
  • Relocation is not provided for this role, the candidate must be located within 50 miles of Waukesha, WI.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher (please don't round)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of problem-solving methodologies used in determining root cause and formulating corrective action(s) - i.e., thought maps, 8D, root cause analysis, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis, control charts, Pareto charts, A3s, etc.
  • Experience in electrical testing procedures and protocols.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical equipment at component and integrated system levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret regulation and standards, and implementing Electrical Safe Work practices such NFPA 70E.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and trouble shoot electrical control, protection, instrumentation, and metering schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to interpret, suggest and resolve equipment or installation issues with multiple and varied electrical contractors.
