The Wall Street Journal is looking for a UX Designer to join the WSJ Design team. You will collaborate with and work alongside product managers, engineers, editors, journalists and business stakeholders to define the digital product experiences for WSJ.com, mobile apps, newsletters and editorial publishing tools. You thrive in a hands on role, facilitating working sessions with various teams, surfacing questions and designing thoughtful research at all stages of the product life cycle. You are familiar with and have used a variety of human-centered design research methods. You will be an advocate for our customers, empathizing with and thoroughly understanding their needs and pain points.
Responsibilities and what you'll do
- Synthesize and translate user research and various customer data points into actionable insights for the cross-functional PDE teams
- Prepare, plan and coordinate customer testing with third-parties and internal teams
- Define product-related user journeys and information architecture
- Facilitate and lead hands-on problem solving sessions with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Work closely with product, editorial, engineering, and design to define the end-to-end user experience and accessibility
- Maintain best practices for UX design and research disciplines at WSJ
- Advocate for users in a fast-paced, corporate climate, fostering a shared understanding of the user-centric intersection between design, news and the business
- Look beyond news and media sectors, monitoring all relevant technology and design trends, and building a structure for feeding these back into our products
- Outputs include: Competitive Audits, Schematics & Wireframes, User Journeys, Interactive Prototypes, User Testing Questions & Surveys, Usability Studies, User Personas, Functional Specs, Sitemaps, Storyboards, Research & Analysis Studies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- 5+ years of UX Research experience for rich interactive, consumer, or enterprise web applications
- Experience facilitating working sessions with cross-functional teams
- Bachelor's Degree in HCI, Communication Design, BFA, or related experience preferred
- Expert-level knowledge of industry standard digital product design, prototyping and research tools (Sketch, Abstract, InVision, Adobe CC, UserZoom)
- Solid grasp of latest Web and App user experience best practices
- Understanding of human centered design principles
- Proven track record of driving impactful change through smart, data-driven UX implementation
