News Editor/Fashion Director
The fashion director of Off Duty is responsible for the section's Fashion & Style content
on all our platforms including mobile, desktop and
the weekly print edition. He or she oversees a team to come up with story ideas that help translate current men's and women's fashion, beauty and grooming trends in a smart, helpful, journalistic way for readers. The fashion director plans line-ups and assigns stories to staff writers or freelancers, and edits all stories to assure they fit Off Duty's service-oriented agenda and the journalistic and ethical standards of The Wall Street Journal, and ushers stories through the proofing and fact-checking process. He or she works closely with the fashion market director to identify and select product to be featured in styled photo shoots or stills. This position calls for an individual with at least 3-5 years senior-level experience in both print and digital fashion editorial; the ideal candidate will bring to the job a deep understanding of current men's and women's fashion and fashion history, a sophisticated taste level, original packaging and conceptual instincts, a lively sense of humor, top-notch editing and writing skills and digital savvy; experience crafting social-media strategy, SEO-friendly display, overseeing videos and conceiving interactive editorial a plus.
