Interactive News Writer

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal seeks a dynamic, fast journalist to help direct, edit and write breaking news coverage of businesses. This hybrid position puts you on the front line of our Real-Time desk, which covers mergers and acquisitions, quarterly earnings, executive changes and other news about the most important companies on the planet. The ideal candidate will have sharp news judgment, be a good line and big-picture editor and have the ability to operate deftly in a minute-by-minute news environment. The candidate must also be adept and adaptable – in his or her reporting and editing, personality and grasp of technology.

The job will involve identifying breaking news quickly, shaping copy from reporters and coordinating coverage with bureaus around the world. It will also involve helping develop the reporters you’re editing. There will be the opportunity—and sometimes the necessity—to write. The Real-Time desk’s stories often hold the top spot on, have made it onto the front page of WSJ print editions around the world and are often the first bearer of smart news for traders reading from their terminals. In short, this is an opportunity to help lead coverage of market-leading breaking news for the global authority in business journalism.

Applications should include a resume and cover letter.
