Engineering Tech Lead

Job Description:


As a cloud architect you will be an essential part of an infrastructure team that provides transformational technical solutions and support services for various business groups. This technically focused position will formulate cloud migration strategies, designs solutions and provide support as the technology landscape quickly transforms to take advantage of new cloud technologies. Additional areas of responsibility include process development, automation design, documentation, technology roadmaps, mentoring operational staff and ongoing evaluation of new technology.

Position Details:

Responsibilities of the cloud architect will include the following areas:

  • Develop solutions that take advantage of external cloud vendor technologies and feature sets to facilitate the organization’s strategic direction
  • Create automation and use monitoring tools to efficiently build, deploy and support cloud implementations. Leverage scripting technologies and tools for faster time to market, gathering data for analysis and completing tasks efficiently
  • Design and coordinate projects of significant size and complexity. Designs must adhere to enterprise level technology standards; being both technically sound and efficiently supportable
  • Perform and lead engineering tasks related to security patching, safeguarding the environment and maintaining corporate compliance requirements
  • Partner professionally with business groups and resources across organizations to achieve goals and objectives. Be able to work effectively with individuals having a wide variety of different backgrounds, experience and technical ability
  • Contribute to and encourage a collaborative team environment by being a team player and helping define the team itself
  • Act as lead architect on projects to guide and deliver successful results. Able to contribute in ways that are not just limited to technology in an effort to achieve project goals
  • Proactively analyze data to recommend solutions, meet future capacity needs and maintain a healthy streamlined environment. Ability to gather and use metrics as a tool for creating solutions and maintaining defined support SLAs
  • Create accurate and well maintained technical design documentation to make tasks repeatable and enable a collaborative team environment
  • Comfort level with an agile cloud first environment that leverages Google apps, including Hangouts, Slack, Github and future tools that foster increased productivity and collaboration


  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, including but not limited to:
  • Launching EC2 instances associated to VPCs and subnets, configuring security groups and autoscaling
  • Glacier, S3 and EBS storage concepts
  • Creating Cloud Formation templates using JSON
  • Experience with virtualization (server & VDI) and thin application presentation delivered from on-premises and the cloud in the form of Amazon Workspaces, Citrix Xen products and/or VMware
  • Must have expert level skills with 5+ years experience in at least one OS family: Unix or Windows
  • Unix candidates should possess one or more scripting languages: BASH, Ruby, Perl and/or Python
  • Windows candidates should possess VBScript and/or Powershell scripting and working experience with Active Directory. Deploying AD in a cloud framework is a plus
  • Experience with storage concepts SAN and NAS (CIFS, NFS, iSCSI)
  • Understanding of security concepts, multi-factor, SSO, certificate encryption, hardening best practices and threat detection
  • Ability to administer virtual servers in a VMware ESX environment including cloning, modifying virtual hardware and addressing compute resource constraints is a plus
  • Experience with Chef and continuous integration is a strong plus
  • Must have a solid understanding of networking concepts: DNS services, TCP, load-balancers, routing, firewalls and AWS security groups to be leveraged for designs and troubleshooting
  • Must be self-motivated, eager to learn and willing to take direction
  • Strong coordination, organization and communication skills
  • Work well independently or in a group and maintain a positive attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints
  • Ability to translate unique requests into technical solutions
  • Successfully present technical information in a clear and concise manner

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in the field of technology preferred, plus the following relevant experience:
  • 6+ years of Information Technology experience
  • 2+ years engineering/architecting technical solutions and providing production level support
  • 1+ year(s) supporting Cloud hosted technologies preferred
