Overview:

Dolby is looking for a senior mechanical design engineer to develop and prototype advanced mechanical designs for a forward-looking consumer product

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and builds proof-of-concept prototypes of precision optics housing and positioning systems
  • Works in close collaboration with optical design engineer
  • Engages with external vendors and generates mechanical design specifications for them
  • Explains and documents design decisions and tradeoffs to team and management

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and 8+ years of hands-on experience developing mechanical prototypes with focus on ergonomics
  • Experience using Solidworks and 3D printers for prototyping designs
  • Experience with optical mechanical assembly
  • Experience designing with tight tolerance requirements
  • Ability to work independently, without any help
  • Demonstrated ability to create prototypes from scratch
  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical design principles
  • Experience with electro-mechanical drives – ability to integrate opto-electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience designing for injection molding process
  • Experience in design-for-manufacturability
  • Experience with finite element analysis for mechanical stress, thermal and environmental
  • Experience working with electrical engineers on PCBs and cable assemblies
  • Material science knowledge with focus on ergonomics
  • Knowledge of machining and optical manufacturing processes

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in head mounted device design
  • Basic knowledge of optical principles a plus
