Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A

Position Summary

Essential member of the FP&A team supporting the Discovery Channel Portfolio. Reporting to the VP, FP&A, the SFA will support the team to meet the financial objectives for the Networks. Primarily focused on all network expenses, will plan, forecast and support network management to ensure expenses are in line with budget. Will liaison with peer SFAs to standardize and automate reporting across the Networks and share best practices.


1. Develop strong working relationship with budget managers and work closely with them to forecast operating expenses - collect and model all relevant information, recommend cost-savings and process improvements
2. Perform monthly financial results review and reporting, providing recommendations and feedback to the Manager and Vice President, FP&A on key variances
3. Create the monthly management and reporting decks for senior management
4. Support team in the month-end close process, working with budget managers on accruals and reclasses and identifying variances to forecast and budget
5. Support FP&A team in the annual budget process by working closely with department heads to prepare a “bottom-up” budget that aligns with the “top-down” strategic plan
6. Improve and streamline processes around reporting. Automate monthly reporting and distribution to budget managers
7. Utilize financial systems to their maximum potential and make reporting effective, efficient, timely, accurate and insightful. Structure reporting to provide effective tools that allow budget managers and Finance management to understand variances and make effective decisions around resource allocation
8. Partner closely with Content analyst to cross train and enhance knowledge of Content tracking and reporting


Bachelor’s in Business, Accounting, Finance or Economics
MBA with concentration in Finance Management preferred
2-4 years of experience in Finance and related functions
Experience with SAP, BPC, Business Intelligence preferred
Strong financial and analytical skills including experience creating complex financial models and efficiently communicating results
Ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously
Strong PC skills including MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint required
Ability to work in a matrix organization
Must possess excellent people skills with a results-driven approach
Ability to meet stringent deadlines and work under pressure
Demonstrated self-starter, high integrity, team player
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required
Excellent attention to detail
