Senior Accountant

Position Summary

This position will be a key member of the Discovery Latin America Revenue Accounting team responsible for Advertising Sales and Distribution revenue. The candidate will be integral to ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial statements, as well as providing the supporting details of revenues & expenses. A seasoned Sr. Accountant is desired to support the Sr. Accounting Manager. The Sr. Accountant will frequently work with the regional Sales and Finance teams in Miami, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.


1. Responsible for Discovery Latin America revenue recognition and related expenses.
2. Responsible for month-end close activities including revenue entries, expense accruals, AR risk analysis and reconciliations
3. Attend monthly A/R aging meetings and calculate bad debt reserve
4. Closely partner with the Billing Analysts in Miami and the regional offices to track Advertising campaign activity from invoicing to revenue recognition
5. Maintain detailed Advertising campaign reconciliations for Unbilled AR and Deferred Revenue
6. Work closely with the Distribution Billing and Compliance team as well as the Sales and Operation teams to understand and accurately record revenue impacts related to new, renewing, terminating and modified contracts
7. Responsible for ensuring SOX internal controls are performed adequately and timely
8. Proactively implement process improvements and participate heavily in new system implementations
9. Perform ad hoc research and analysis as requested by management
10. Ensure appropriate analyses are timely and accurate. Communicate results to Management and respond to inquiries
11. Prepare work-papers and respond to inquiries from internal and external audits
12. Prepare supporting schedules to assist Management in monthly/quarterly reporting
13. Minimal travel may be required
14. Perform other special projects as required


Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance required
Must be fluent, written and verbal, in English and Spanish
CPA or CPA Candidate highly desired but, not required
Minimum 5 years of high-volume General Accounting and month end close experience with an increasing level of responsibility over this time.
Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), specifically related to Revenue Recognition
Experience with SAP or other large ERP accounting package preferred
Previous experience with International Accounting, particularly Latin America countries, strongly desired
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to develop and maintain business relationship at all levels of the organization and with external vendors/clients
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing, fast paced environment. Detail oriented with strong organization skills
Candidate should have the desire and ability to work as a team player with a sense of urgency and aspiration for accuracy
