Print and Digital Production Manager

Position Summary

The Discovery Agency is the internal marketing and advertising agency for Discovery Communications. We produce advertising and marketing campaigns in digital, on-air, print and out of home for all of Discovery Communications networks and corporate business units, both domestically and internationally.


The Agency is an innovative, award-winning creative leader in the entertainment space. The print and digital production manager plays an integral leadership role on our production team, ensuring that we deliver high quality, breakthrough print, online and mobile campaigns smoothly, accurately, and with measureable results. The production manager is the primary liaison between our creative, account production and media teams as well as with outside print and digital vendors. Requires a highly detail oriented individual with excellent communications skills who thrives in an ever-changing environment.


1. Act as lead producer/project manager for advertising campaigns, effectively applying our print and digital campaign development production and traffic process from start to finish
2. Review media plans with media and account teams ensuring that all deliverables can be produced within the deadline and budget
3. Participate in kick off calls with media, account and production teams and publishing sites
4. Review traffic and spec sheet from media planning team to ensure that all sizes and placements of print and digital units align with what is being created from creative team
5. Create detailed list of deliverables and assets needed to complete project on time
6. Create detailed production schedule and accurately assess resources needed to complete project on time
7. Help select and manage outside vendors. Supervise kick-off calls to agree on scope of work, specifications
8. Conduct formal bid procedure for the purchase of materials and services from pre-press houses, offset printers, digital developers and other specialty suppliers. Provide budgetary estimates for each project
9. Prepare and issue purchase orders and/or work orders for every job, prepare delivery instructions for every job, and communicate them to vendors
10. Provide timely, actionable feedback/revisions to creative, production and vendor teams; ensure revisions are accurately made; communicate job changes and budget impact to project team and to client. Identify project risks, clearly and quickly communicate steps to mitigate risks
11. Proof color separations and digital bluelines, and communicate modifications and corrections to vendors
12. Utilize project management software to keep all projects on track, communicate with all teams at every stage of development
13. Monitor the execution of print file preparation; Supervise digital QA process for filename accuracy, proper animation and click through functionality
14. Supervise shipment of all printed deliverables to external suppliers
15. Assign and upload creative assets into Double Click campaign manager, Double Click Bid manager and Yahoo Bid manager
16. QA tags, track and manage approvals and ensure creative performs correctly in the live environment
17. Communicate with media planning and media agency, account and creative teams during QA of any issues and develop rapid response plan for correcting problems
18. Have a solid understanding of competitive landscape and be well versed in latest trends, formats, platforms and possibilities, sharing that knowledge with account and creative teams
19. Maintain and update list of vendor resources and suppliers for print and digital production

5-7 years experience and a proven track record in advertising agency environment
Experience in developing and overseeing project milestones, benchmarks and schedules
Experience working with and motivating creative teams and technical production/development teams
Knowledge of key industry players, experts and vendors in the digital and mobile space
A passion for television and media business.
