Host/Writer

Position Summary

The Host/Writer will research and write show scripts and then present those scripts on camera as directed by the show producer. These presentations will be a mix of scripted and improvisational delivery. Host/Writers are expected to pitch original content ideas and have an aptitude for video production. The position requires a dedicated professional and investment to assigned programs and provides an opportunity for developing new content ideas and concepts. This position will require a significant commitment to writing and editorial involvement and a strong control over an authentic and charismatic delivery, as well as an adherence to strict deadlines.

 

Host/Writers are also responsible for engagement with show audiences outside episode creation in areas such as: participation in social media properties, representing the show and network at special events, and being an ambassador to Discovery Digital within our networks, on a corporate level, and at outside functions as required.

 

The ideal candidate is someone who is just as excitable about science, news and exploring the world as we are, and likely already has a YouTube or Facebook channel of their own.

Responsibilities

1. Research, vet and complete video episode scripts per directive of show producer
2. Write show or segment summaries for publication as directed by show producer
3. Present on camera from scripts or improvisation as directed
4. Refine writing and presentation work per feedback by production team
5. Create and execute new show formats as directed
6. Actively participate in online discussions, social sharing, ancillary productions and events to represent assigned show(s) and network(s)
7. Represent the brand of show and network at all times while attached as a face or voice of assigned shows.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years experience in broadcast and/or web video production
Provide links to examples of your work
Very strong research and writing skills
Understanding of journalistic best practices and research ethics
Prior, related on-camera work strongly preferred but not required
Authentic, passionate expertise for related show content
Heavy experience and active knowledge of social media platforms and networks
Adhere to appropriate content embargoes and NDAs
Must be resourceful, proactive and have a strong attention to detail
Must possess strong communication and organization skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
