Position Summary


Our Team
Discovery’s Corporate Communications department supports the company and its executive leadership through strategic communications – from year-round profile building through press, conferences and awards to product- and initiative-specific PR. The Digital team is concentrated on dynamic and more recent trends in media, including OTT/TVE, web-native content, virtual reality, new platforms and much more, driving Discovery’s narrative as it relates to digital media and technology. The team also provides communications support across several of the company’s businesses including Discovery Global Enterprise’s which encompasses ad sales, digital, research, consumer products, location based entertainment and program sales.

The Role
The Director, Communications is a key member of the Corporate Communications team, supporting Discovery Communications’ Digital Media divisions. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Communications, the Director is charged with developing and executing communications strategies in support of the company’s digital businesses, press plans and announcements, speaking engagements and award wins. The Director also will leverage their digital media expertise to drive the company’s narrative across platforms, supporting corporate initiatives and events.


1. Developing effective communications strategies for digital brands, programming and initiatives
2. Creating press materials, including press releases, communications strategies and pitches, pitching online, consumer business and trade press
3. Maintaining and extending media relationships in support of business
4. Identifying, pitching and staffing executive and talent speaking and interview opportunities
5. Overseeing awards strategy and entries
6. Creating and maintaining bios, briefings, talking points and other materials in support of business and its leadership
7. Managing talent for press initiatives and opportunities and coordinating with internal talent relations
8. Providing communications support for cross-company Discovery initiatives
9. Other tasks, as assigned


7-10 years publicity and media relations experience, with a focus on media and technology
Demonstrated understanding of and interest in today and tomorrow’s media, digital and technology landscapes
Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Strong media relations with digital, consumer, business and trade press
Solid organizational and project management skills, with a keen attention to detail
Understanding of and experience with social media and digital media in a business setting
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently, while also regularly collaborating across teams
Strong computer skills, including experience creating polished presentations and reports
Experience with Cision, Spredfast, Photoshop and similar business tools
Willingness to travel
Must have the legal right to work in the United States
