Freelance: Guides Writer for Home Tech
FREELANCE GUIDES WRITER FOR HOME TECH
About Digital Trends:
Digital Trends is here to help people navigate an increasingly digital world. We are providers of trustworthy and unbiased product reviews written in plain English, as well as timely and entertaining coverage of the way tech is changing our lives. By focusing on products that incorporate style along with cutting edge functionality, Digital Trends has become an indispensable resource for people who embrace the best of what technology can offer. We are the fastest-growing independent tech media brand in the world and among the top 10 most visited technology sites.
We’re seeking freelance writers with a love of consumer tech and gadgetry. This is a daily gig (telecommute unless you live in NYC or Portland, OR and want to come into the office), and we’d like it to become a consistent, long-term working relationship if we’re satisfied with your work.
Right now, we’re hunting for a guides writer to contribute to our home tech section. Each day, you’ll write 1-2 guides on subjects like how to buy a dishwasher, the best smart light bulbs, and tips and gadgets for growing an indoor garden. If chosen, you will write helpful articles of all types, including how-to guides, roundups of accessories, tips guides, hacking guides, bug fix roundups, rumor roundups, and fun articles for our readers on social media channels like Facebook. The ability to research, source, and find the best advice or products for every situation is a must. This is a 1099, contract position, and is NOT paid on W2 basis.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
The ideal candidate already has considerable experience writing and fact checking online, consistent time each day to write at least one guide (several hours), and the drive to dive right into creating publishable content with minimal training. The ability to turn around airtight copy quickly and reliably while using excellent editorial judgment is crucial.
As part of your posts, you will find and secure relevant images, video, and other media to draw readers in and keep them there. Your sources will include media from manufacturers, official releases, stock photography, and more.
In time, a solid candidate may also earn the option to write news posts, do live reporting, review products, and contribute regular articles / columns based on hot topics. Compensation starts at $50-100 per article, depending on the amount of research and time involved.
Broad knowledge of the current tech landscape is a must, and knowledge of WordPress or a similar CMS is important. As part of your posts, you will be finding and securing relevant images and other media to draw readers in and keep them there. Your sources will include media from manufacturers, official releases, stock photography, and more.
The ideal candidate already has considerable experience writing and fact checking online home tech news, guides, time each day to cover breaking news, and the drive to dive right into creating publishable content with minimal training. There are no set hours for this position – only the expectation that fresh stories will make it live on Digital Trends during daylight hours on the days that you are on duty. The ability to turn around airtight copy quickly and reliably while using excellent editorial judgment is crucial.
If you aren’t self-driven and constantly motivated to start new projects with a quick turnaround, this probably isn’t the right gig for you.
